That was his only HIT of the series.drunkpirate66 wrote: (And don't tell me the guy who threw out a runner at second and hit a huge homerun last night - **** didn't have anything to do with how great those young low market pitchers are. That is the value of a true catcher.)
******11th of this catchers post season career; look that stat up for all time post season homeruns by a catcher - - - this is the website for the Hall of Homeruns, right?
And yes, the bullpen was great in the last 4 innings of game 5. Where the heck was Varitek's magic "handling of a pitching staff" during games 2,3,4, and the first 5 innings of that game?
Maybe we should be talking about Dionar Navarro, and how great his young pitchers were?

Good answer, but ALL of those teams went through periods when they su.kked.CaptainP wrote:Not $uck?Wino you know wrote:Let's see-
Baseball has expanded by FOUR teams since 1993.
The expansion franchises are:
Colorado Rockies
Florida Marlins
Arizona Diamondbacks
Tampa Bay (Devil) Rays
All of these teams have done something in our lifetime that the Chicago Cubs HAVEN'T.
It's a toughie, but would anybody like to venture a guess as to what that may be?
NOW, had you said "Not su.kked during the POST SEASON," I could've given it to you.
but the answer I'm looking for has something to do with the world series-is THAT a clear enough hint?

Congratulations Rays. I'm not really upset that the Sox lost the series, they just got beat. This may be because of winning 2 Series in 5 seasons.
You know, with all the cowbells in Tampa, I could see Christopher Walkin be invited to Tampa to say, "This place needs more cowbell."

If you want an experience, go to a Jimmy Buffett concert.
Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.

We fly into Tampa Thursday morning.....looked into tickets for game 2, and they ARE available. But the cheapest tickets are $400/each so I'll be watching from a barstool at a beach bar somewhere close by
Congrats to Tampa....kinda glad they won, as they're in much better shape to give the Phillies a good series. Boston is just too beat up, but you have to hand it to them, they made it interesting playing their guts out and forcing a game 7, then making that a good game.

Congrats Rays . . . this really is a great thing for MLB. A team built entirely on minor league and other prospects. I was looking over who they have signed for next year and their ages: good lord! They could make the World Series a habit based on their current roster and other players they haven't used yet in the minors. Well played and good luck.
the hit and run is as good as any religion around this time of year . . .

OK. I just made a post about it. Read above. I have sent you numerous text messages saying it. But I will say it again: they are an unbelievable team! Who is the oldest pitcher . . . I think it is Shields at 27. Kazmir is 24. I think David Price is 23. Edwin Jackson is 24, I think. Sonnanstine is 25. Navarro, I believe, is 24. Yup . . . my kind of team. They beat a great Red Sox team. I can see them winning the AL East again in 2009. I can see the Red Sox not signing Tek. Navarro is pure value. Catchers like that are rare. Homerun hitters who strike out more than everyone get all the credit but guys like Navarro (and Tek over the past decade with his 60 + post season games caught) are the guys who win. I bet Navarro is a decade could have 60 + post season games under his belt too and I will say he belongs in the HOF as well even if he doesn't have a ton of homeruns.

Now for the 5 people who will watch the world series they will subjected to "24" and "Prison Break" promos...
Back to the ALCS, the Red Sox really missed Mike Lowell. Who knows if it would have made a difference but i sure would have liked to have Lowell getting those 28 or so AB's in the series instead Mark Kotsay.

Don't the Sox still have Casey? How is he in comparison to Kotsay? Assuming that you had to take out Lowell, would it have been better to have Casey?BottleofRum wrote:chippewa wrote:No more baseball this year on TBS, thank God. Hey, I'm one of those 5. Maybe if I get together with the other 4, they'll schedule the games when we want. Like starting tomorrow, with the first pitch at 7:35 EDT.BottleofRum wrote:chippewa wrote:No more baseball this year on TBS, thank God. But, yeah, I forgot about all the Fox promos....I guess we won't be any better in that regard.

As much as sporting events schedules are catered to the east coast audience, there are some advantages of living out west. Just don't listen to the radio on your way home.Lightning Bolt wrote:I think I'll DVR the game and start my viewing at 7:35 PACIFIC... and skip those damn promoschippewa wrote:Hey, I'm one of those 5. Casey is a singles hitter with no speed and I am pretty sure the slowest runner in baseball. He is also below average in the field.aeroparrot wrote:Don't the Sox still have Casey?
