It's official: no game tonight.
I'm not doubting it, but who's reporting that? It's not on mlb.com or espn yet.mikemck wrote:It's official: no game tonight.
It was not raining when the game started -so why do you believe that it should have not been played at all???mikemck wrote:Actually, I never said they should have kept playing. I don't believe they should have played the game at all.Lightning Bolt wrote:Sounds like the classic attitude that gives Philly fans the reputation for being morons.
Play the game in pouring rain so you can save on the parking fees???? ..so Hamels can go 5-0??? c'mon...Perhaps you should listen to what we're saying before you call us morons. Nobody is complaining about the weather. We're complaining about Selig and the officials' reaction to the weather and their incompetence in handling the whole affair.weather happens... deal with it.
Because they knew before the game that inclement weather would become an issue as the game went on.fabduo wrote:It was not raining when the game started -so why do you believe that it should have not been played at all???
mikemck wrote:I just don't understand why this stuff always, always, always happens to us.
We've been waiting 28 years for this and now they've ruined it. Even if we win, it's not going to be the same. There will always be an asterisk next to it.
I wanted so badly to see us win at home because I know from a source close to the team that the players had something special they were going to do for the fans as a thank you when they won, but now I feel like it would almost be better to go back to that stupid dome so that we can win a real nine inning game, instead of a three inning mockery.
I agree with Al Morganti. If the Phillies lose tonight, there is no way Selig gets out of this town alive.
What's worse, the people who are going back tonight have to pay another $25 dollars to park again. I can't believe that the city won't waive the parking fee. That's just ridiculous.
Between the Phillies, the Eagles, the Flyers, and now the news that we're losing our beloved Phantoms at the end of this season, I really have to wonder if I died without realizing it and am now in sports fan Hell.
The one I feel the most sorry for is Cole Hamels. He was having an unbelievable World Series and was on a pace to put himself on the Phillies Mt Rushmore with Carlton, Roberts, Bunning, and Schilling.
He had the opportunity to be the first pitcher in history to go 5-0 in the post season and now that's been taken away from him.
If the Phillies lose tonight, I hope there's a riot at that stadium.
If each team has ONE, why would they need SEVERAL guys to make that call? Don't they trust Lamaine?mikemck wrote:
Each team has a meteorologist who's job it is to inform the team, the officials and MLB about the weather.
In Philly, it's a guy by the name of Tom Lamaine. Lamaine was on the morning show of our local sports station this morning explaining that not just one, but several meteorologists advised them not to play the game.
All Star game: NOT HIS FAULT....blame Brenly and Torre for using up all of their damn players before the 10th inning. Then when Padilla gets hurt, Brenly had nobody left to run out there.chippewa wrote: [Selig] he just completed the trifecta!
Ruined the All-Star game (tie game)
Ruined spring training (world baseball classic)
Ruined the World Series (see last night, I'm blaming him for the way it was handled and give me a minute and I'll pin the rain on him, too)
John McCain's achy knee says it's going to rain on Wednesday. That's good enough for me. Plus, I just washed my car.CaptainP wrote:If each team has ONE, why would they need SEVERAL guys to make that call? Don't they trust Lamaine?mikemck wrote:

I love contradictory statements. Heeheeheehee.
Actually, most of the players that had been replaced had left the stadium already, so he didn't even have the option of letting them put players back in the game that had been replaced (Heck, Barry Bonds appeared on the tonight show about 20 minutes after the game ended...IN STUDIO!). Even if he did, putting a pitcher back in almost guarantees an injury. Then people would have ripped on Selig for that. He was in a no-win situation. NOT HIS FAULT.chippewa wrote:John McCain's achy knee says it's going to rain on Wednesday. That's good enough for me. All-star game: yeah, the managers used up all the players and I'm sure were looking for a way out. But Selig didn't have to give it to them. A.J. Pierzynski could've come in and pitched -- and blown out his shoulder. Who wouldn't want to see that?
This coming from somebody who's team plays in a circus tent and didn't even support the team until they made the playoffs.CaptainP wrote:Ah.....so what I'm getting is that it is Selig's fault that it rained?
(I'm a Rays fan, but if I wasn't, the following statement would still hold true)
Now I REALLY hope the Phillies lose this series. The way the fans are whining that the rain delay is costing them....YOU SOUND LIKE CUBS FANS WITH YOUR STOOPID EXCUSES!***
I agree with Lightning Bolt. Weather happens. Deal with it.
***In 2003, the Cubs were a few outs away from winning the NLCS. Then, someone hit a FOUL BALL that their left fielder did not catch. Suddenly, they looked like a team that had a convenient excuse to play like crap and return to their long tradition of losing. And that is just what they did.
Now the Phillies have that excuse, too. Rain. Now they can start losing again, and have their excuse for it.
I hope it happens. But I'm also a Rays fan.
All I can say is "Thank God". I was able to pick up tickets for the conclusion of Game 5, and I really didn't want to sit thru 45 MPH winds and 25 degree windchill. Granted Wednesday nite might not be great baseball weather either, but it should be a little better than tonite.mikemck wrote:It's official: no game tonight.
Is that a separate (new) ticket, or how are they handling that?rumdrinks wrote:All I can say is "Thank God". GO PHILLIES
long urlIt was a rule almost as old as baseball itself, and if it doesn't apply in Philadelphia, it still applies in Las Vegas. Sports books in the gambling capital recognized the Phillies as the winners of Monday's World Series Game 5, 2-1 over the Rays...
Um...I've been a very vocal fan of the Rays for years. Read back through the BN Baseball threads for YEARS. In fact, the hat I wear on a day-to-day basis is a Rays 2002 hat.mikemck wrote:This coming from somebody who...{}...didn't even support the team until they made the playoffs.CaptainP wrote:Ah.....so what I'm getting is that it is Selig's fault that it rained?

Yeah, I'm sure you were talking all those years that the Phillies were playing on the damp cement at the Vet. Might have been the worst ballpark in baseball back before they moved out.mikemck wrote:This coming from somebody who's team plays in a circus tent ...CaptainP wrote:Ah.....so what I'm getting is that it is Selig's fault that it rained?

To whom are you directing this comment? I have had Rays seasons tickets for the past three years...from worst to first!! There are people here who support them through thick and thin.mikemck wrote:This coming from somebody who's team plays in a circus tent and didn't even support the team until they made the playoffs.CaptainP wrote:Ah.....so what I'm getting is that it is Selig's fault that it rained?
