When the "Farewell Tour" finally comes.....

How and when will Jimmy break the news to us?

> Before the start of tour for the year?
> Sometime during the tour?
> At the last show of the year?
> After the tour is complete?

Now please understand that I'm not trying to infer that 2008 is "the" year. Or 2009. Or even 2010. But I must admit I have wondered about this.

If announced before the tour, ticket availability & prices would be crazy. If announced during the tour, see above for the balance of the shows.
If announced at the last show of the tour, well, I can't imagine the stunned silence of the crowd and it's just no way to end a JB concert.
If announced after the tour is complete, all those who said "Well, I'm not going this year. There's always next year." would most likely consider some form of self-inflicted harm.

I guess, in the end, just be glad JB is still touring, playing the songs he wants to play, at the venues he wants to go, and embrace the experience for as long as possible.....

If I had to guess, I'd say Jimmy would PROBABLY not say anything and just pack it in.

As for the ones who say "There's always nex year," anyone who has gone to concerts regularly or followed Jimmy's music over the years should KNOW the end could come at any time, and by NOT going to any shows during a particular year risks not seeing him ever again.
Nothing is forever, and, as much as I hate thinking about it, the time WILL come when Jimmy Buffett concerts are no more.

But let's hope that's not for a long LONG time.

I kind of agree. I think he'll scale back (he actually already has started this) and then have a regular stand at the casino and do select Paris/Anguilla/Hamptons-type shows.

But then I think about the marketing man inside him, and wonder if he doesn't see the possibility of the "Last Hurrah". I don't think it would be anything like the 10 year KISS reunion-Farewell tour-a-palooza but he may make a point of saying goodbye at special sites which have had special memories. I don't know if there's much more money to be made concert-wise, he does sell out practically every show and I don't think his style would really transfer well to a stadium size venue, but who knows? Maybe he'd document each show and the tickets would increase in value to include a "Collectors Edition DVD and CD of the Final Jones Beach Show YOU were at!".

You know . . . after re-reading that . . . . hmmm . . .

I can't believe that he would just announce (in maybe January/February in some far off year) "Oh by the way....". Unless he had a health issue suddenly come up....God forbid!

I watched the CMT show last night (again) and I think he really understands and respects what Parrotheads have done to help his career and success. And would not shock the sh*t out of us....he's breaking it to us slowly over a long period of time. And besides the money's pretty good.

I think he will cut back appearances to suit his style and announce it before hand in that 2022 will be the year he retires!!!!

First of all . . . can a moderator please remove this horrible thread . . . :D

Second . . . I have felt this for years . . . Jimmy will never retire. He will die. He might get sick - heaven forbid . . . but until he is no longer amongst us he will still do a show here or there . . . perhaps small venues in the Carribean . . . or whatever . . .

As far as the major stadium/ ampitheatre venues (Alpine, Iriving, Great Woods, Cinci, etc.) that he plays every year . . . atleast another 7 - 10 years.

And that is an honest guess; not just wishful thinking.

A final tour will be announced. It will probably be a full scale tour as opposed to the mini-tours he has been doing the last few years. He will go out with a bang. He will visit more cities, and play to larger crowds. It will be a grand spectacle. He might even play some stuff not on the yellow album, if he brings the telepropter with him. He loves to perform, he loves the crowds, he will not fade into the sunset, he will leave with everyone wanting more. After that he will probably hit the casinos once a year and do the benefit shows for kicks.

Yeah. None of that is going to happen.

He's been bringing the teleprompter for the last 3 or 4 years.

What act that can still bring fans in or sell cds ever retires? Don't they all end up in Vegas, Branson, the small local casinos, community college auditoriums, etc? Who out there that can still put people in the seats has given up entertainment by choice? I could go out right now and see acts ranging from Tony Bennett to Tony Orlando.

I think Jimmy will eventually give up the amphitheater tours, but you'll still have opportunities to see him in Biloxi, Bora Bora.....or maybe your corner bar.

I don't even want to think about that. I'm so upset that I'm too young to have experienced Jimmy in his early years.

Now please understand that I'm not trying to infer that 2008 is "the" year. Or 2009. Or even 2010. But I must admit I have wondered about this.
Hopefully this won't happen until.........oh, let's say.........
Chambersburg High going undefeated in football.
