Because I'm watching Anthony Bourdain. :D

Do you have any 'quirky' eating rituals?

I don't like a sweet food touching a salty food.

But I do eat a few bites of this and then a few bites of that till I'm finished.

However, I do like (made from scratch) gravy on mashed potatoes and mixing it a little with the meat it's served with. But NOT with green veggies, as I don't like them.

I used to be a horribly picky eater as a kid, but I lost that luxury a long time ago. After being in the restaurant business for so long, I'm accustomed to my meal breaks being about 2 minutes long and having to scarf down as much as I can.

When I was a kid, I didn't like anything touching. I still have a little of that, but I now eat some foods together, like meat and potatoes on the same fork,
:o ,etc. I have learned to adjust

I don't mix my foods
I don't ONLY eat one thing, I hit anything on the plate
I don't segregate my foods by flavor or spice

I could stand to hate a few more sweet and sugary foods in this new year

I don't care about touching most of the time, but I don;t like cole slaw juice running into my other foods.

BUT, I do eat in a circle around the plate (a bite of A, then a bite of B, etc.) until I have one bite of each left and finish all at the same time.

Drives the Mrs. crazy!

I voted "other". I put the food in my mouth and chew.

People are always rolling their eyes at my eating habits

1. Vegetables do NOT belong in dishes that have meat. (ie casserole) .. you have your meat on your plate, and the veges on the side.

2. NO veges mixed together - everything separate on the plate.

3. NO cold food with hot food - eg taco's with lettuce and tomato and hot meat - gross! Only thing I do is lettuce on a hamburger - cheese has to be melted ....

4. If someone throws the protective sheet under the lid on the butter tub - I can no longer eat that butter (even I cannot explain that one  )

5. I apparently like the sweet and salty thing - as I like pineapple pizza

6. I cannot have toast if it has not started to be buttered the minute it is dragged out of the toaster

7. My veges have to be a set way on the plate - potato beside the meat, then the pumpkin then the peas ..... My mother dished it up different once and my sister and I just started at it

Just toss it all together. Its all going the same place. There is nothing better than the salty scrambled eggs mingling with the syrup from the french toast.

yes, I am a bit weird...

No food can touch each other.

I eat in the same order...one food group at a time...vegetable first, then potato then meat.

If I am out and order a chicken sandwich or something...I eat all of the french fries before I touch my sandwich...usually don't even eat half of the sandwich as a result! I also hollow out the roll.

No sweet sauces on chicken at all. (I don't eat any other meat)

And, I smell everything before I put it in my mouth!

Don't really matter what you eat as long as you get some protein and vitamins from meat and veggies on a fairly consistent basis.

What people don't want to hear is that in order to be "healthier" they need to get off their a$ses and work out - every day . . . all these diet or nutritional programs like South Beach or Jenny Craig or whatever are crap.

Get yourself a personal trainer . . . they are not expensive if you have a membership at a gym (and certainly cheaper than signing up for a "nutritional program") and move . . . drink tons of water . . . and then, in moderation, you can eat anything your body allows.

South Beach isn't bad. It encourages whole grains and fresh, whole foods and discourages processed sugar and caffeine. Nothin' wrong with that (unless you're a total caffeine addict like me). However, most folks would be hard-pressed to find an actual WHOLE GRAIN at the grocery store.

Thankfully, I'm not much of a picky eater nor are my kids. Unfortunately, my daughter's Celiac Disease kind of makes her picky, but not by choice. Her options are pretty limited since about 85% of the food at the grocery store has wheat, barley, oats, or rye in it. She likes meat, rice, potatoes, and almost all veggies and fruits, so that is a bonus. My son eats anything and everything you give to him whether it is food or not.

If anyone in my house complained about food touching I'd probably make them excuse themselves from the table and go hungry. They have good food to eat which is more than some kids in this world and they don't need to be freaks about it.

Y'all need help.

Eat to live, live to eat.

Segregating food indicates that there is empty space on the plate.
I didn't grow to be "big john" by doing that. :pirate:

No there is nothing wrong with any of them . . . other then they are not necessary . . . most of those diets are common sense and if you need guidance you can find many free websites that offer ideas for healthy meals. I find in my time in the health field and consultant for the USCG that peolple join things or buys things diet related like South Beach more for the social aspect as opposed to the health aspect.
