Cable Television "Sticker Shock"

Frankly, most of the over air stations will be able to deliver (many are doing it now, The Tube was an example) more channels and all you will need to watch the signals is a roof-top antenna and "rabbit ears". If your set is not digital, then you will need a box to convert.

If the stations do it right you may be able to dump cable.

Followup,
Well I cancelled my last premium service. Believe me, I'd LOVE to get rid of cable entirely, but there's someone else in my household that would KILL me if I did
I ended up upgrading the tier to get some previously unavailable programs, I SHOULD be paying less for the service than I was previously (since the upgrade is cheaper than the premium channel).
One other note, I mentioned to the service rep that I really only like to watch "sports" on TV, and the new tier I upgraded to apparently contains the "sports package" so I'm a little happier now..
I just wish there was a way to remove the high definition "box" and at the same time use my TV instead. (I have a Sony XBR-1 model so I SHOULD be able to use that instead of a converter, which would likely save me a few more bucks a month..... Naturally they DONT mention that option is available.

I have Comcast for $88 a month.
I have an HD DVR box in my living room with HD On Demand. I have regular box programming in the bedrooms since the tvs in there are not hi Def...yet that is.
I do not have the movie channels (hbo/showtime/starz/cinemax) since most things on there I have on dvd.
I also have NFL network, for what 5 extra bucks a month? It came with a few other channels, worth it to me.
I had Dish Network for like a week and did not like that you have to have a seperate antenna just to get local channels in Hi Def. With Comcast you get them. I also think Comcast has the best hi Def channel selection. You also have to have a seperate dish mounted to get hi Def with Dish. They put two on my house and I did not like the way they looked up there.
On top of that I could not stand the nearly three second delay when you turn the channel waiting for the channel you just turned to to pop up.
We all like what we like. My brother has Dish and swears by it. I have Comcast and swear by it. Different strokes.

When the year is up I'll drop all the fancy stuff on the TV side. I have a gazillion channels now and there's STILL nothing on!

I called Comcast last week to tell them I was downgrading to offset the price increases. They lopped 10 bucks off my bill (for how long I don't know) so I'll have the Digital Preferred plan and the Sports tier, and all told will pay about 74 bucks a month. When the promotional period is over I'll probably switch to Dish Network, or I'll call Comcast and tell them I'm canceling altogether so they'll make me some discount offer for a year to stay with them.
