Would you change Radio Margaritaville programming?
I know RM has been around for a long time and I do enjoy it but given the chance I'd change some of the programming. Hell, I know it's Jimmy's baby and when they are not playing Buffett they are mostly playing music from his generation and what he probably enjoys. What I think would be great is if the programming changed to include much more Jimmy. Especially now on Sirius, the music of the station should mirror that of the name. For example, the Bruce station plays 99% Bruce from his studio albums, released concert albums and also a wide range of bootlegged concerts never heard before. Howard 100 afterall is 100% Howard Stern, the Stones station, all Stones, The Who station plays all Who. Wouldn't it be great if Sirius 31 Margaritaville played more Jimmy, everything from his early days and include all of the concerts on record and even ask us for some bootlegged shows. Guess what I'm saying is I'd love to turn on RM and hear Jimmy in some form and not something from the 60's, Joni Mtchell, The Drifters, etc.
Am I the only one who would like to see/hear a change. Is there anything wrong with wanting more Jimmy, especially on his station??

In order to want to change programming, I would have to listen to it- and I don't anymore. It used to be better when it was completely Inet based- Buffett and overall really good timeless music. Now it's an oldies station with some Buffett thrown in- and live Buffett at that (although I do think that helps keep a lot of people from competing with me for concert tickets, so I guess it's ok!).

If there needs to be a change, then the type of music needs to change first. When it was internet only, then it didn't have that much of the mainstream music. Now it's almost like a free air radio without the commercials. I still listen on occasion.
If you want an experience, go to a Jimmy Buffett concert.
Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.
Life is short, live long!!
I'd rather be a wiseass than a dumbass.

with a name like "Margaritaville" you'd think it would play more tropical music. More rarely heard Buffett songs would be great as well as more indie "trop rock" artists. I remember Dish used to have a station called "Tropical Breezes" that was better than RadioMargaritville imo but when RM went to Sirius it disappeared.
When I had RM on Dish, other than the concerts, I found myself saying "I already have all this on cd"

I miss the old days and the unique programming... like the beatles brunch.
RM has gotten better about playing the SAME live cuts over and over again. There are times I have to change it to something else because what they play are just.... well.... odd.
i usually turn it on for the buffett buffet.... i like it when they pull out the rarely played songs...

I couldnt agree more. If I hear the same versions of Southern Cross and Brown Eyed Girl (from TT&S), it is going to drive me nuts. He plays so many versions of so many songs, yet they seem to keep about ten of the EXACT same ones on rotation, and rarely play a raritytxaggirl91 wrote:I miss the old days and the unique programming... like the beatles brunch.

Everybody likes different things but I rarely listen anymore and it is not because of the non-Buffett music. Just once I would like to listen to a Buffett Buffet and not hear every song done live. For instance I flipped it on in my car yesterday and saw that Door Number Three was playing....live. Same thing with Growing Older But Not Up. If I want to hear Jimmy I throw the CD's in now.
Talk is cheap, it takes money to buy your freedom....
I am a subscriber to Sirius which has what, about 160 channels of programming? I'd like to see RM be just that, all Jimmy all the time. Sure they could throw in some other trop stars but make it mostly JB. Think of all the recordings that are out there from live performances and all of the released albums, not to mention the Mac shows where JB shows up, the solo show from Sag Harbor, the years of concerts ,etc. I'm willing to bet if they change the programming to all JB there would never be a thread on here asking for less JB and more oldies. That just is not going to happen! Howard Stern had a similar thing happen when he started on Sirius, he would have his typical 5 hr morning show, then rebroadcast for the west coast then have some filler and then replay the show again at 9pm in the evening. It wasn't 2 months that went by where every caller and fan all said the same thing, we're paying money for Howard and we want more of it so just replay the show 24/7 with no filler stuff. Point being, the fans, weather Howard's fans or Jimmy's all want the same thing....more of their entertainer. We have so many other stations to listen to if we want oldies. Give us more Jimmy 24/7!!
So, if we do want more JB on RM who do we petition?

I'll second that "AMEN".....MrTwain wrote:AMENsonofabeach wrote:with a name like "Margaritaville" you'd think it would play more tropical music.
I do listen to RM regularly now that I have Sirius (my only reason for having satellite radio) and overall I enjoy the music and the DJs, especially Miles Hampton in the evenings. At least Miles always answers emails, unlike some of the other DJs.....I also enjoy the current mix of musical styles played (Buffett, pop, rock, country, reggae, etc.).
I didn't listen much via the internet before, but have been interested in some of the BNers talking about the programming "back then". I wish I could hear some of the "old" shows, contests are always appreciated, and just more of the "trop rockers" that commercial radio will never play. And more variety of JB tunes instead of the same live versions over & over. My favorites remain the live JB concerts as well as older concert replays.
So, yes, I'm a fan of RM and certainly appreciate the station every time I listen. But a little change in programming now and then would make it even better.....

I listen to that at home and only listen to RM in the car during the Buffett Buffet.
I also agree that they need to play more tropical music!
