I certainly don't wish that to be the case.ragtopW wrote:I hope He is not illLightning Bolt wrote:what'up with this move?
typical, Bob Knight classlessness to just bail
From what I had heard recently was:
1) he's got his 900 wins
2) his team isn't going to the dance this year
3) he's just fed up with dealing with Texas Tech's AD
$#@&...only Vegas again?? Padres ...gotta start believin'!Bring on '14 Spring Training!

Could be all of the above....Lightning Bolt wrote:I certainly don't wish that to be the case.ragtopW wrote:I hope He is not illLightning Bolt wrote:what'up with this move?

WOW--I hate many of his antics, but I have always admired him because:
his players graduate
his players are incredibly loyal to him after graduating (with rare exception)
he understands where athletics fits into the bigger picture
while he has all his crazy and unacceptable antics, he runs a clean program-you don't hear of NCAA violations with his programs.

Coach has been contemplating retiring for a while now and had been talked out of it by his son Pat. He finally just got wore down and couldn't do it anymore. The constant travel and long hours wear on a guy and Coach isn't as young as he used to be. Not to mention he didn't want a farewell tour complete with rocking chairs. He's looking out for the good of the program and it's coaching staff. If his heart's not in it, there's no reason to stay. Behind the scenes, I would not be surprised if he's still a small presence. His greatest gift for me is that he kept college basketball academic. In an industry based on money and not giving a crap about graduation rates, Coach always put grades and education first. Preparing for life would always be more important than basketball. He screwed up a lot and had a helluva temper. But you know what? I screw up all the time too, it's just not plastered all over the television. To call him classless is moronic. The game is definitely worse off without him. Enjoy watching college basketball continue to turn into the NBA.

Knight: 'It Was Just Time To Go'
Bob Knight Steps Down As Texas Tech Coach
LUBBOCK, Texas -- "It was just time to go."
That was the reason Bob Knight gave Tuesday for his resignation Monday night as Texas Tech's men's basketball coach.
