Who schedules a wedding during football season in the South?

Post by Nole Pirate »

My friend that is who. Of course it is on the day of the FSU - Va Tech game. Rather than one week earlier, when FSU, UF and Auburn (his team) are all off, they pick the 25th. I think I am missing the wedding since this marriage is doomed anyways. Sorry, I just needed to rant.

You can always go into the bar and see it on the big screen with the rest of the guests...
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Pinot Noir in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming "WOO HOO"

I hear you on this one. 2 years ago, we had a wedding to go to during the game between Boise State and their in state rival.

Almost every man at the wedding had headphones on.

you know, he probably had nothing to do with the date selection. That would be the bride's dept.

While I am sure this is somewhat true, he should have told her to check the schedule. Oh well, I hope I am not in the wedding and therefore I can skip it, send him a gift and watch my Noles in my seat in Tally. Of course my fiance is taking her side, but my fiance also knows I will not have a wedding in the fall.

My friend, die hard Yankees fan, got married during the play-offs a few years ago. His wife was very understanding though, which is why all during the reception he had an ear piece in, listening to the game on a small transistor radio.

I can honestly say when picking my wedding date, sporting events would be the furthest thing from my mind.

I have to admit that when scheduling our wedding I did not take into consideration the sports viewing habits of my guests. That was the LAST thing on my mind. In fact it never hit the radar at all. My hubby likes to watch football, but is not obsessed with it so it would never have occurred to him either.

Most weddings are scheduled around the weather, the availability of the church, reception place and often their parent's availability.

If I had to worry about everyone's sports shedule I would have been in trouble. Between every ones kid's soccer games, basketball, baseball, football, and winter weather there would not have been a good time for everyone.

Mostly you pick a day and those that love you try their best to arrange their schedules to be with you. But you can't please everyone....

I have to agree, never a fall wedding in the south!!!

I am a diehard UGA fan, my wife and I were engaged in late december and were married 1.5 years later, why???

Because she said, not enough time to plan a summer wedding and FALL was out of the question due to UGA football. Sure do love her!!!

We attended 2 weddings in the fall 2 seasons ago, one couple did it on a friday to avoid the football sat (good call)

Next couple, missed a UGA home game (bride is UGA alum) and auburn/lsu and fla/tn played the same day. (@!@!!)

Go vent, at http://fallweddingssuck.com/

Last but not least why would anyone want to get married in the fall period? Early may/june is nice weather and no sporting events!!!

I understand your gripe 100%

You have obviously never tried to schedule a church in June

I have to admit if I had a fiance who considered a football game of more importance that our marriage...and I had to postpone the wedding because of football season, I'd be seriously thinkin I need a new fiance. :P

(I was married in September--that's when Tom's lease ran out and my parents were still in Michigan before leaving for Florida for the winter) Autumn in Michigan can be quite nice for a wedding.... [smilie=battingeyes.gif]

Our wedding was in July after the Baseball All-Star game and before pre-season NFL football began. Right smack dab in the middle of the summer sports doldrums weeks. A real slow sports time of year so I figured, let's get married.

Bonus each year when the anniversary doesn't collide with any good sports that week either.

Maybe not June, but May I scheduled. Also, just a reminder. I never once mentioned the football/fall dates. My wife said no way to a fall date because of football. She was thinking of her passion for football but also thinking of all the guests that were attending our wedding.

It was never a issue of fiance choice just to clarify....

My college friend said she would never schedule her wedding during football season because of the bitching that went on at other weddings.

then 2 months ago she tells me that They are getting married not only on a MSU Home football game but that its Homecoming.
