Gunman opens fire at N. Illinois U. hall

DEKALB, Ill. - A gunman opened fire in a lecture hall at Northern Illinois University on Thursday, injuring as many as 15 people before he was killed, authorities said. DeKalb Police Lt. Gary Spangler told the student newspaper the Northern Star that the gunman was dead. It was not immediately clear how he died.

I could just puke...... :( :(

It was just on the news... four students had been shot in the head..... :( :(
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Pinot Noir in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming "WOO HOO"

I just don't get it. :(

Sometimes more than others,
we see who and what and where we are,
I'm just a one man band,
With my feet in the sand,
Tonight I just need my guitar

I will say this though, if the news didn't make such a big deal out of the gunman, we wouldn't be getting all of these "copycats"

I lived in DeKalb for 22 years, was a police officer for the City for 8 years, my daughter is living there now and will begin graduate school at NIU in the fall, my sister still lives in DeKalb and her husband and son both work at NIU. Thank God my loved ones are safe! I was just in DeKalb two weeks ago. It's very difficult to believe this has happened. Just like you always hear......this crap seems to happen in the least likely places you can imagine. This incident hits horribly close to home for me.

It's a scary world we're living in... my thoughts and prayers to the victims, families, and friends, as well as the NIU community.

My sister and my 6 nieces and nephews live in Orland Hills. Two of her children attend Eastern Ill U. She just told me that her one son wants to transfer to NIU. She sent a letter to their admissions dept. at 2:30 yesterday. They were supposed to go visit this weekend. Scary stuff. Just always tell your loved ones you love them and appreciate time with them. There are terrible people in this world and things like this are so random you never know. My sister said on local news the police captain who was first on the scene was being treated badly by families and others around him and he responded (paraphrased), how can you possibly be prepared for an event like this. We did everything properly and the best we could and as quickly as we could. Wow, just so sad. Prayers said for these families. There are so many things you think could happen to your kids when you send them away to college and you give them so many warnings. This just isn't one of them. My college has established an emergency text messaging system. They'd like everybody to register for so in the event of something like this they can contact everybody at once.
