Only 37 days to sunny florida lilsalty & Continental Drifter III, we'll have to stop at Publix and pick up our Corinitas, M'vill tequila, and M'ville Margarita Mix. We'll be having lovely libations while at Disney's Old Key West Resort! We'll have to use the echo pool too.

What will you consume at the Gurgling Suitcase?

I read about the 1/2 yards on the DIS discussion board, but not sure of its validity.
I just checked a Disney Message board and it looks like they are still selling the 1/2 Yards at the Rose & Crown pub. If you have a Plastic 1/2 from a previous trip be sure to bring it with you. One year they were out of the plastic 1/2 yards, and the only people getting beer were the ones who brought their own. I always pack two just in case one gets damaged during a Gravity Storm.

My family is going to Disney World the end of October. We'll be there for Halloween and my bday which is the next day (November 1). It will be the first trip for my kids, ages 13 and 10, and my first time there since 1975 (wow that's a long time!!). Hubby's been there a few more times than I have. AND I've been promised a SIDE TRIP to Jimmy's place!! Don't know which I'm more excited about Disney or going to another Margaritaville!!

I hope they'll be there when I go in October--215 days--but who's counting! It's been almost 7 years since our last Disney trip, and now that I've become a beer snob, I was looking forward to enjoying a good brew or 3 in a 1/2 yard. If not, I'm sure I will still manage to have fun anyway. How can I not, it is Disney World after all.

In Oct, you'll probably be there during the Epcot food & wine festival which is AWESOME! The Sam Adams beer demo and tasting is great too. Drinks and food from like 30 countries! CDIII and I went this past October for a long weekend and had a blast!

I love the Food and Wine Festival--we've been there for it before and I will certainly appreciate it more than years ago. My beer palate has certainly changed and we might end up spending more time at Epcot. We will be there for 10 days though! With all the planning we are doing now, you'd think we were going next week. But that is the effect Disney can have on a person! :)

Don't you just love planning dinner 3 Months out. Six Months if you want to plan your Dinner at The California Grill around the Fireworks.
But it is worth it.

just reading this post for the first time, I noticed a couple posters suggesting Universal.
I agree!!...and I never would have thought I would suggest anything other than Disney to people.
I am a first generation Disney kid. We went to the park the year it opened, and 6 or 7 times after that as a kid. Been there another 6 or 7 times as an adult....it still hasnt gotten old to me :P
But started also going to Universal with the kids around 12 years ago. Been there 5 or 6 times since then, and the kids enjoy Universal parks more than the Disney parks...of course they are 13 and 11 now, so the Universal parks suit them better.
I have to say that we are pretty disappointed that Universal keeps closing their classic rides. We couldnt believe it when they closed the King Kong ride, and couldnt make any sense out of them closing the Back to The Future ride...so we expect they will eventually close their other good rides like Men in Black, Twister, Earthquake.
Disney should get credit for being able to maintain all their classic rides over the years...could you imagine them closing down The Haunted Mansion?..or Splash Mountain?...or It's a Small World or Pirates of The Caribbean?
Universal Studios got it wrong when they chose to put up The Simpsons cartoon ride in place of Back to The Future ride....but Universal has City Walk and Margaritaville...it's worth going just for that!
I do recommend to everyone "La Nouba" at Downtown Disney.

The tickets arn't cheap...but it's worth every penny! (hey penny 8) )

What would you say is the major difference that you like one over the other? My kids will be 13 and 10 when we go in October and my husband actually suggested going to Universal along with Disney. Just wanted someone else's input...

There are a few things that factor in for us.
[*] parking = advantage Universal : I like the fact that I can get to my car a little quicker at Universal than at Disney. At Universal you can leave the park and walk to your car in 10-15 minutes. At Disney you leave the park, you go get into the cattle line to ride either a tram or a boat, you get off of that to get into another line to ride the little train-car to your section of the parking lot, and then you walk 5-10 minutes to get to your car.
You also have the advantage of parking inside a parking garage at Universal, which keeps the inside of the car a little cooler. You park at Disney all day in the heat, you come back to find your rear-view mirror laying in the floor (ok, maybe they dont put rear-view mirrors on the windows anymore  , but I did come back to find the stearing wheel emblem melted away and laying in the seat back in the late 80's)
The advantage of being within walking distance to the car also plays a factor if you are trying to save some money on eating. You could actually have a cooler in the vehicle with sandwich stuff inside, and save maybe $50 on lunch (litterally!). Family of 4 = about $50-$60 for burgers and fries. You do that x3 or 4 days at the parks, and you have saved $250-$300 :D
[*] Disney has the classic rides, which will mean more to you than the kids..IF you went as a kid, or heard about the rides as a kid. We have found that the classic rides doesnt mean anything to the kids. They want roller coasters and such. However, they ARE interested in Pirates of The Caribbean (thanks to Johnny Depp-Jack Sparrow)
[*]Universal Studios has City Walk just outside of the Parks, which is virtually free to see (virtually because you have to pay for parking to get to City Walk). Downtown Disney is away from the Disney Parks and you have to know Orlando to find it.
[*] Universal Studios has Margaritaville (advantage Universal 8) )
[*] Universal has the "more hip" rides that my kids want to ride (ages 13 and 11...both are boys). They have the Hulk roller coaster, the Spiderman 3d ride, Men in Black, and up to this past year, they had Back to The Future. We havent ridden the Simpsons ride, as it is new this year.
[*] If you have young girls, Disney is the place to go...if you have boys, Universal is the place to go.
[*] Disney has more parks, which means more to select from.
[*] both parks have a water park, which are both equal to the other

I personally like to plan 1 day to go to Sea World. There are more things to do while sitting on your backside
[*]All the shows are "sit down" shows.
[*] If you have a love for the sea, you HAVE to go to Sea World
[*] You can buy a one day ticket, walk through the gate, wait in a small line for about 5 minutes, and get a ticket for a second day for free. Not everyone knows that, so the line isnt too long for that.
[*] The best thing about Sae World is that it is all at a slower pace. Not as many people to deal with..Much More Better 8)

I hope this has helped a little. I didnt do spell check on this book, so please forgive spelling errors

EXACTLY!!! It was one of the reasons we went to Universal.. My boys said "Dad, you have to write them a letter to stop this from happening." I said, I will send them an email, but I dont think it is going to make a difference"
This year we are planning another trip to Orlando, and the boys said we should NOT go to Universal as a protest to their closing the ride.
But then they said, "I guess we better go to ride MIB again before they close that"...so we are still undecided.
We know for sure we are doing Sea World for 2 days...and we know we will at least go to Margaritaville. I've been kinda watching and hoping JB would announce an outdoor show at City Walk...but it hasnt happened  ..so we still havent made reservations anywhere yet.

Universal has more "extreme" rides. Disney has more "kiddie" rides. I like Universal but loved Disney. Basically it's all good.
It's like trying to pick a Buffett set list. Not matter what you pick your going to enjoy it.

Before anybody can say anything. It's ME with the blue shirt!!!

I know one thing next time we are scheduling in a downtime day. At Easter we did Universal in two days
and had a day in between. Disney we did for 7 days straight. The seventh day we just hit our favorite
rides at Epcot & Magic Kingdom. Mission Space, Fast Track, the 3 Mountain rides (Space, Splash and Thunder),
Buzz Lightyear, Monsters Inc. But we were drained.

As I said it's all good!!!

PS - We did not like Blizzard Beach. VERY disappointed. We have been to several better. Hurricane Habor NJ, Mountain Creek NJ, Camel Beach PA and even Dorney Park PA. Typhoon Lagoon was closed for upgrades.

My 5 year old LOVED Universal, but my 2 year old was VERY limited on what he could ride, unlike at Disney where he could ride almost everything with us. My 5 year old, Aunt, Uncle and cousins actually went back to Universal another day before we left just so they could ride the Spiderman ride a few more times!

We are leaving on Monday for Disney, but we are only spending 4 days there, and we are going to try and hit all four parks. I was making a schedule and my girlfriend looks at it and says, "Where do you have time set aside for laying by the pool?"

I said, "oh no no honey, Disney is a working vacation, especially since we are there for only four days". I dont think she liked that answer.

If by some miracle we get done what we want to get done and have extra time, I may hit up Sea World only because I have never been. I had always perceived it to be a crappy aquarium, but it seems like everyone loves it, so I guess I should check it out. While I am on the subject, what do you guys like about Sea World so much?
