Long Island Bahamas

Post by Catch&Release »

Going to Long Island in the Bahamas next December for a week.

Going to chill, fish a little and just enjoy the sun.

Anyone ever been there? What are some must see places, things to do?

Thanks!
I don't want to live on that kind of island
No, I don't want to swim in a roped off sea.
Too much for me, too much for me

Would add in... going in May to San Salvador Island, Bahamas, and has anyone ever been THERE? Is it worth it to rent a scooter? There doesnt seem to be much there.

Leaving tommorrow for a month. My suitcase is full of fishing gear and my sirius radio to keep in touch. Hope I can find a margarita or two. I'll let you know.

I've been to Long Island a couple times but stayed in the Dead Man's Cay area about 2/3 of the way down the island. If you get down that way, go by the Greenwich Creek Lodge and say hello to Samantha Knowles for me. Also, if you want to bonefish, that area is incredible. Go out with Ivan or Elvis Knowles. There's not much else to do, but that's fine with me.
Long Island is my kind of place.
Roll with the punches
Play all of his hunches
Make the best of whatever came his way
What he lacked in ambition
He made up with intuition
Plowing straight ahead come what may

Thanks for the tips, everybody. We had an amazing, amazing time.

A steady 25 mph headwind that blew the days I tried to flyfish kept me from hooking any of the few bonefish we saw. A great time, nonetheless.

Here is a review I posted on Trip Advisor with some pics. What a great Salty Piece of Land. It's amongtst the greatest of human tragedies that we're back in this miserable sub zero weather which is part of the worst winter I can recall in years.
