in an oil change and can a car ever take more then the specs list. I have a 2000 Mustang with the 6cyl motor. I thought the specs called for 5. I had the oil changed, local garage. They charged me 4. extra for an extra quart of oil. They did this because the change includes 5 quarts and they say my car took one extra. Would you be concerned?

where did you have the oil changed?

I've always heard that you allow 1 quart for the filter. But then I'm probably wrong too

MR. Oc says one for the filter. I guess he's right.

Regardless of what they put in (or what they charged you for!), make sure you check the dipstick to see if it is over-filled.

Your engine can run all day if it's a quart or two low. But running a quart or two over can cause problems later on!

We've got a spec chart here and it show some Mustangs (depending on engine) take 6 to 6.5 qts.
