We don't have time for international news. We're too busy trying to figure out who the next American Idol will be.....

Just have to get my two cents in here... Creeky, I totally agree with you. We are a very ethnocentric country and it would do us some good to see the world through others eyes and know what's going on around the world. As far as the theory that Europeans know more about the world because their countries are packed on top of eachother - I don't buy it. Just for one example, ask any American to name all the Canadian provinces... they can't do it... heck, Canada is packed right on top of us. They could probably fill in the name of every state in the US and recite the names of the members of the US Cabinet!

You probably know more about the USA than half of the Americans living here, honestly.
But not all of us are ignorant of the rest of the world.

Didn't more people vote for the last American Idol than voted in the last election? That's pretty sad.

But you know, when I have traveled to Europe, where we watch the news and don't see much news of the USA (or Austrailia, Canada, etc). Maybe a little England if there is a hot news story but mostly the country we are actually in and others that are also on the Euro. Maybe Russia if they are up to something especially entertaining. I would never think of saying to someone there that I wished there was more news of the USA though. I like seeing what the local news is.
Always get a kick out of pronunciations of President Booooshe though.
We get reasonable European football and sometimes South American games on tv here, and I am sure we get more news of other places in the world, but at this point, we have so many channels that I can't even find most of them, so I don't really know what we get. Too many channels!!
But I do agree that the news programs here in the US are driven by ratings, not by what is actually newsworthy or educational.

OK so let’s take this on several levels
International..
Say I move to Australia and decide I don’t like some things..
Lets say I start a campaign to..
Change the law to drive on the Right side of the road
Change the gun laws.. “I” am from the United States.. “WE” can own semi auto and even full auto firearms
NOW I start on a mission to start Tipping the service staff.. And to change everyone’s attitude about tipping.
But I bring Rocky Mountain Oysters..
National..
I move to Texas..
What do you mean I can’t buy hard liquor in a store on Sunday???
You people need to stop advertising in Spanish on Bill Boards..
This is America.. WE speak English…
NOW. I start a mission to stop rodeo as it is “cruel”
But I bring Indian tacos..
Local..
I move next door to an airport… and start a Campaign to change the flight patterns
“they fly right over my house”
OR
I start a church.. Rent a building with a porno Movie house on one side
A strip joint on the other and a liquor store across the street..
And start in on the zoning and planning board to close down these “ dens of iniquity”
In every instance “I” am wrong.. No gray area.. No even close to the line.. Wrong Wrong Wrong..
I moved in, I am the one who needs to change my ways.. If the place I left was so great..
I need to go back…
Jenny I am not against change or exchange of ideas..
For crying out loud. The Chinese taught my people. (and yours)
To brush our teeth or they will fall out..
Also to wipe our butts..
Also we needed to be shown that lice were not a “plague from G~d”
We need to bathe..
What I am against is someone moving to a place.. And wanting to tailor it
For them as it is not like the place they left..
Again I will say.. “go back”
