Do any of us go off road with a 4x4?

HI!

Just curious as my husband and I (well, to be honest, he much more than I...I just go along for the ride, kinda sorta) are involved in going off road with Jeeps and other ORV (off-road vehicles). We are members of a couple formal clubs as well as several internet forums much like BN that devote themselves to the world of four wheeling.

I thought it would be fun to have a Parrothead Off Road "Club" of sorts, and was wondering if anyone else out here does such a thing. Also, if you know of any Parrothead Clubs that also use off roading as part of their activities, etc. I'd love to know about it.

BTW, we are in Michigan, if that makes any difference. Thanks so much for your insight!

since i was a teenager i always wanted a jeep grand wagoneer to go over sand in the dunes. well, my dream came true in '97 when we purchased a '86 blue model which i named bessy. she left us this past january. we got a '90 which is cream puff a few years ago. her name is bucky. infact, we just got back from going over sand on nauset beach to check out the beach shacks that are being claimed by the sea. we went threw alot of water in the trails. some areas were almost 2 feet deep.
anyway, we don't go in the woods because we're more about the outer beach and keep'in her a "puff".

well, if I get my way, I hope to develop the "Nautical Wheelers" which is a group of Parrotheads who not only go offroad, but are willing to solicit and collect charitable donations once per quarter for set causes.

What causes those are, are up to debate. I just want to add a parrothead themed sticker to our rig and do some good as we are out having fun. With what we do in Michigan, it shouldn't be a problem with asking folks to gather a few bucks for charity---we already do at least once sanctioned event each year.

Anyway...thanks again for input. I just need an excuse to get a trail rig, and if I charter a parrothead group, then I have no choice

heh, we have 2 1984 CJ Laredos (I think.. I'm not very good with names)

We have had a barn full of Jeeps, and one that I personally loved, a Cj5 that was margarita green. I named her Rita (of course) but she was sold to accommodate a build up of another rig (I don't do these "mercy killings" well....)

Anyway, thanks again for the feedback. I think it's a fun idea---just need to see if there is enough support to make it worth the while to develop and print stickers....

I don't go back into the pine barrens but I do take my old blazer onto the beach and and use it for surf fishing.

Oh wow! Had one of those. a blue one... Got it stuck, the wrecker got stuck, and had to call an even larger wrecker to get both of us out.....

and the first wrecker had the nerve to charge us $60 for not getting us out.

I really liked that you could shift to 4 wheel without having to get out and lock the hubs...

well, OK, locking the hubs outdates me, huh?

have a Jimmy GMC now, only 4 wheel in emergency...

Funny enough, we have a Grand Cherokee Laredo, and whenever we head up into the Olympics or the Cascades, my husband loves to take random logging roads that, to tell you the truth, are more like mud trails that often end in the middle of nowhere. I have to laugh whenever he does this because there we are, the five of us... the three kids in back eating goldfish and we're all listening to Radio Disney as we wobble up precarious inclines in the mountains of Washington!

it was a back road we took, and ended up in a hay field, with two long rows of those huge hay bales..

we got stuck between them...our two kids were young, then..and I had to get out and hike through the pasture, with cattle visible, to the only house we could see.

I kinda knew who lived there, and they told me last time they got the tractor stuck there, it took two weeks to get it out...

my youngest one, my daughter, wouldn't leave the house for three weeks without packing a lunch with her. All we had was a bottle of water and some of those swedish fish..the gummy things...

our son found the adventure quite thrilling....about 5 1/2 hrs we spent in that hay field. this was before cellular phones, btw...

I mainly got the Jeep so I could ride around topless and doorless but I do use four wheel drive at the beach and a have a few times on some backroads. There are some Jeep clubs around here I just never thought about joining.

my '92 lexus handled a muddy pasture pretty well in a straight line once. (OK, OK, I had a 30 mph head start and the pasture was 30 yards wide)

I got my girl's truck stuck in a 3 ft trench being dug for a pipe. Dropped the right side straight in, wheels weren't touching anything on that side. Luckily, we had a Cat key in our group, jumped in a bulldozer 20 yards away, tied the tow straps, and pulled 'er out.

She doesn't let me drive it anymore.
