Lastest info on the sinking:
http://www.king5.com/topstories/stories ... 2986a.html
The article alludes that FCA has had issues in the past, however this vessel was loadlined (part of the fishing industry hull classification process). It appears that they had flooding in the steering gear room and as a result the rudder wasn't functiong properly (hard to say what happened here....chicken and egg....most vessels use hydraluic pressure to move the rudder which would not be affected by flooding, however they also use an electric "follow-up" mechanisim to tell the captain where the rudder is (rudder angle indicator) which would fail if imerssed in water. The autopilot uses the follow-up mechanism....so if the autopilot was engaged it could effect the rudder....again...hard to say without further info).
The missing crew memeber appears to have been a Japanese national... either a buyer or a technician onboard (very common to have foreign techs onboard).
I expect we'll hear more thoughout the week as the USCG debriefs the crew.
Thanks again for your thoughts and prayers.

I had meetings down at fisherman's terminal today...the news crews were out video taping the memorial...... I hate it when they do that...It never means good things........ph4ever wrote:so sad. I've heard them talking to some of the families on news radio
