Just caught this on the AP wire ....

Fishing Boat Sinks Off Alaska; 4 Dead
By RACHEL D'ORO – 1 hour ago

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — A fishing boat sank off Alaska's Aleutian Islands on Sunday, leaving four crew members including the captain dead and another missing, the Coast Guard said.

Forty-two of the 47 crew members on board the Seattle-based Alaska Ranger were rescued, but the search continued for the missing person, said Chief Petty Officer Barry Lane.

The vessel started taking on water shortly before 3 a.m. after losing control of its rudder 120 miles west of Dutch Harbor, which is on Unalaska Island.

I think you're right, but doesn't he still work at the fishing company?

Marcus doesn't actually go out on the boats . . . . he goes up to Dutch Harbor to the processing plant . . . If I was in Seattle, I'd go look him up, but unfortunately, I'm in Waikiki.

Wow guys!!!! Thanks for the concern!!! And thank you for the concern for the guys that are out there.....No I am not out there right now and no the Ak Ranger is not one of my boats..... though I do know some of the folks in that company....Please pry for those that are missing...the Bering Sea is very unforgiving.. :( :( :( The Ak Ranger is one of the Factory Longline fleet, They generally are fishing for Cod, yellowfin or sole and use Dutch Harbor as their primary Port of Call. Sounds like they had flooding in their steering gear room (the machinery space that controls the rudder of the ship). As yet I have not heard any further news but will let you know when I do. Unfortunatly, our season ended early this year (as such all of my boats are either in port in DH or on their way down for shipyard in the seattle area)...had our season been still going you would have seen a much higher response on the water......
I do still occasionaly go out....more of a tourist than anything else....when I'm in DH I will take the boats around and dock them and I still enjoy taking them out in the Sound when they are down here but I don't go out fishing anymore....

Thanks again for thinking of me...... Thoughts and prayers for the families of the dead and missing....
