I know it's been a while but the CD is almost finished! We are in the process of mixing and then on to the mastering suite. We hoped to have it available for Jazz fest but now we're looking at a possible June release.
Choosing the songs wasn't easy, you all had such great suggestions, but we narrowed it down to 14. So, in no particular order, here they are...
1. Creola
2. Frenchman for the Night
3. La Vie Dansante (duet with Tina)
4. Making Music for Money
5. Son of a Son of a Sailor (duet with JB)
6. Why You Wanna Hurt My Heart
7. Volcano
8. Margaritaville
9. Wonder Why You Ever Go Home
10. Give Henry the Receipt (Nadirah Original)
11. Open (Nadirah/Heather Perry Original, duet with Mac McAnally)
12. People Call Me Jesus (from Mac's 1st Album)
13. Let Him Go (from Mac's 1st Album)
14. When the War is Over (duet with JB, Eric Clapton song)
We divided the music between 3 bands. The 'Coral Reefer Rhythm Section", my band from Los Angeles "Outside Art", and "The Sonny Landreth Band". I am beside myself with excitement and gratitude. Mac as you know is an awesome songwriter/producer and a wonderful Spirit. His good friend/partner Alan Schulman who is engineering the album, have been working together for many years. They are an exquisite team, both of them absolute southern gentleman and have made this entire process nothing less than beautiful. My only complaint would be having to indulge in all of that deliciously rich southern cuisine. We're talking gumbo, bread pudding, bar-b-cue, southern fried chicken, you get the picture. Speaking of pictures, I'm now in serious cardio mode striving to be "hot" for the CD cover, whew!
We did most of the recording in Muscle Shoals, Alabama at Mac's studio "La La Land". Mac and I then traveled to Lafayette, Louisiana to record with Sonny's band. Both studios are in relaxed, scenic atmospheres with beautiful river views (the only way to record!). I was even invited to sing on Sonny's new CD which I was honored to do.
I am still grinning from ear to ear, I think we have created something very special and I hope you each find something in it that speaks to you.
Oh, I almost forgot, the title of the CD is....(drum roll please)
"Nod to the Storyteller". What do you think? I just told JB two days ago, he smiled his approval. You know how his eyes light up when he smiles? I love that.
I will update you again as soon as I have new info. In closing I thank you again for all your encouragement. This one is for Jimmy and this one is for you.
Love,
Nadirah (aka Soulsingah)
