Bottle of Rum....people for the past 2 weeks have been saying it's gonna be an easy series, but I never thought that. You had 2 very evenly matched teams. Over ythe 2nd half of the season, the B's record was every bit as good as the Habs, and if they hadn't had the dreradful start or the rash of injuries, they would have been fighting for home ice. Julien is a great coach and the B's have some great young players. The regular season numbers mean very little going into the playoffs when you have 2 teams with such a history of historic battles. I expected this to be a hard fought series and go 6 games. Quite honestly, I expected the B's to win last night after the way they had playued the last couple of games.
Now that the Habs have moved on, the only team in the East the really scares me is the Rangers. I'd love to see them play Pittsburgh. I don't believe Crosby and co can handle to style the Rangers play, just as the Habs had a rough time with the B's. I also don't see the Habs coming out of the East this year. This is a learning experience for the whole organization....the young players, the coach, and management who's going to see what pieces are missing and go out to get them. Next year is the Canadiens Centennial, expect bigger things from them next year.

But I've got a problem. I'm playing (hockey) tonight from 9:30 to 11PM. I have to leave my house ~8:30PM. Do I:
-go to hockey, Tivo the part of the game I miss and try to institute a "media-blackout" while at the rink. (knowing there will be Caps fans there that might slip and say the score.)
-go to hockey, listen to the game on the radio on the drive to the rink and then bring a radio in the locker room and/or incensently check my phone for updates?
-not go to hockey and pace my family room floor while shouting at the TV
-blow it all off and listen to the Buffett show on Sirius.
What do I do? I'm leaning towards #1.
As a long time hockey player, here's my advice.
Get your priorities straight. Playing comes first!
Go play & listen on the way & when you get there.
You'll feel better afterwards. Trust me.
Thanks Al, knowing you are a hockey player, that's what I figured you'd say. I ended up watching periods 1&2 and then left to go play. Almost everyone on the ice last night was in a media blackout. Suprisingly, no one ruined it (there is usually one in every crowd). I left right after we were done (there was no beer anyway) and went right home. I then thoroughly enjoyed that third period.

We used to skate w/a Doctor who said we had to drink 12oz of fluids for every pound of water weight lost skating. Though he didn't specify what kind of fluids.

Yeah, it was a rarity. There is usually enough for everyone to have a couple. But, it is Passover so that means no beer for me. I'll make up for it next week.

There are idiots in every city.....this was in Boston after game 4
"The Boston Herald newspaper reported a Montrealer named Jean-Pierre Masse was beaten and kicked in the face several times about 10:20 p.m. after Game 4 of the NHL Eastern Conference quarterfinal series, in which the Boston Bruins lost 1-0 to the Montreal Canadiens. The incident happened on Causeway St., outside the TD Banknorth Garden, the site of the game, minutes after the contest had ended.
Masse, 28, was wearing a red Canadiens sweater as he walked past a group of about 20 Bruins fans, witnesses said.
"They began yelling things like, 'Go home, you French (expletive)' - things like that," Hugo Contant, a Quebecer who was at the scene, told the Herald.
Masse told the group he didn't want any trouble, Contant said, but one of the people punched him in the face. His eyeglasses fell off and he fell to the ground. Then one of the men kicked Masse in the face at least twice. "I thought they would kill him," Contant said.
Boston police arrived soon afterward. They said they found the victim semi-conscious and bleeding from a cut to the head.
Masse was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries.
Investigators consider the incident an isolated one, Boston police officer Eddy Chrispin told The Gazette yesterday
Officers have stepped up patrols near the arena during the playoffs as a precaution, he said. There have not been any other serious incidents.
"There definitely are incidents with the consumption of alcohol and the fact there are a lot of people together and the competitive nature of the games," Chrispin said. "But there hasn't been anything out of the ordinary."
Like I said, there are idiots in every city....Montreal doen't have the monopoly on idiots....or post game riots, they've happened in many other cities after Superbowls, World Series etc.
If you read the local Montreal paper, the article says that local gangs used the celebration as a cover to start looting and rioting. It's sad, but it wouldn't surprise me to hear of the same thing in over a dozen other North American cities that have gang issues.
IMHO, I'd rather see the discussion about the great hockey we've been seeing the past week, and what's coming up.
I grew up in philly during the Broad Street Bully reign, when philly had a sport team to get excited about. Now I"m getting sucked in again. Went to the victory parades where there were many streaker. Remember the song. That's what my parents were trying to do with all of us kids watching the show.
