My comments on last night game. True to form the Flyers lose game one. The difference to me was the Pens capitalized on their chances where the Flyers did not.

Besides the fact that the Flyers got away with a high stick that should have been called I thought it was one of the better officated games. They let them play.

-----------------------------------

Does anyone else think that Versus coverage stinks??? Trip to "Hockey Central" when you want a replay. Stupid graphics taking up half the screen during play. Somebody should tell them that the average person now has a big, if not large, screen TV.

If your going to mike players and have mike all over the ice have the annoucers shut up so you can here what they are saying. Like with the scrum at the end of the third.

While it's real nice to have a close up of Malkin or Richards I would much rather be able to see what the wingers are doing and how the defense is playing them. Then as the play is about to happen thy switch angles and it takes a second to adjust your bearings. And stick the side shot and save the behind the net shot for replays.

Versus coverage does stink. I can't stand the announcers so I turn off the sound and turn up the radio with Mike Lange and Phil Borque. So much better, but then the TV is like 4 seconds behind. It's an odd sensation to watch and listen in two different times.

Game TWO final: 2-1 Wings.

2 games down, 2 to go.........

2 - 2 going in to Third. Flyers down top two defenseman. Wish refs would let players decide the game. Shots to the head have to be called but border line calls should be left not called!

Flyers got a break on a disallowed goal. Since it was called no goal on the ice it can not be over turned unless there is a clear shot of the puck in the net/ over the line. While it appeared the puck did go in there was not a clear shot. The Flyers got burned by this rule earlier. Finally some consistency?

Huge third period. Let the winner win it in regulation! Don't want OT tonight...

Call me what you want but another game with horrible officating!!!

Flyers score on their 3rd PP early in the second period and don't get another shot the rest of the game while the Pens are given 3 more and two of them horrible calls. Four sets of eyes and nobody sees Malkin cheapshot Briere. Then he gets called for goaltender interfernce after he's held and pushed in to Fluery. BS!

Let them play!!!

OK, I agree, horrible officiating!!!

But I don't believe it was as one sided as you see it. The refs had as many bad calls against us as they did against you.

Maybe we'll get another group of refs for the game on Tuesday.

Oh, and I also agree that the vs. coverage s#cks.

We do this with the Steelers. We turn up the Sirius with the hometown feed. It's great. We also sinc up the Directv with the Sirius so it's like we are in PGH listening to it.

From Philly Daily News....
There were plenty of other factors in this one. It is all too easy to gripe about officiating, especially in the NHL, but referees Kelly Sutherland and Dan O'Halloran did a poor job throughout this game. We're not talking anti-Flyers conspiracies here. The officiating was bad for both teams.

In fairness, hockey is the toughest sport to officiate. It moves faster, and the two referees can't possibly see the entire playing surface at once. So players are going to get away with things, such as the elbow Evgeni Malkin threw into Danny Briere's head late in the second period. A little earlier, Briere managed to trip Jarkko Ruutu in the open ice.

Briere's trip was as sneaky, but not as dangerous as Malkin's elbow. The Russian star is too good a player to engage in such nonsense. And if the league doesn't take some kind of action - and it almost certainly will not - then chances are the Flyers will take it upon themselves to take a shot at Malkin in Games 3 or 4.

If the officials are bound to miss some things, they are still responsible for getting other things right.

They blew the call on what would have been the Penguins' second first-period goal. After a review, the goal was disallowed, essentially because Marty Biron's glove blocked the camera's view of the puck. But if you can see one side of the puck and it is six inches over the goal line, there is no way the entire puck isn't in the net. Ignoring physical reality to adhere to the letter of a rule is absurd.

Some of the penalties called (and not called) were ridiculous, too. Hatcher went to the penalty box for playing sound positional defense on Malkin. The Penguins scored nine seconds later.

Lupul was asked about the officiating.

"I'm not sure what I'm allowed to say," he said, which said plenty.

"We're not expecting any help," said Mike Richards, who scored a spectacular shorthanded goal. "We just have to go about our business."

The Flyers get to play the next two at home. Maybe they'll even get a chance to play without losing a key player in stunning fashion.

Like any sport....the officals ALWAYS have the upper hand.... but no matter what...it is still the luck of the draw. Happy Pittsburgh is being dealt lucky hands.... All the teams are great that are in the semi-finals

Team USA gets SCREWED in the IIHF World Hockey Championships against Finland. With the naked eye the goal looks good but they reviewed the play for 5-MINUTES and still allowed it  The Russian video ref who allowed the goal was promptly suspended after the game. I think the announcers are speaking Finnish and even they laugh when the replay is shown.

and in true USA fashion they kicked the crap out of Finland later on in the game

Now *that* is an example of the refs screwing it up. Unbelievable.

It's also an example of a classy coach unlike some we've seen the past week.
