It's pretty funny. I have not really watched much of the finals. I watched first period tonight and then turned on in third OT. I have been very critical of the officiating and I turn the game on just in time to see the Pens get away with a blatant trip in the offensive zone. One that I'm sure would have been a penalty in first three periods. So of course there's a obvious RW high stick (with blood) within a minute that results in the game winning PP.
So perhaps by trying not to decide the game the refs decide the game???? Did not see the whole game maybe Wings got away with a whole bunch before I tuned in. Just bring the point that a penalty is a penalty. You don't want to call something cheesy but not making a call you might be deciding the game as well. This is not so much a comment on tonights game as much as a fault in the NHL.
Maybe I'll watch tomorrow.....
PS anybody else thing it's retarded the way they schedule the playtoff games???

have to give the Pens props...they weathered a strong attack and Red Wings team that controlled play for most of the third, only to tie it up with less than a minute to go. Great flow to the game, wish I could have stayed awake for the whole OT but fell asleep late in the first OT. Still see the Wings taking the Cup, but Pens have saved face after being shut out the first 2 games.

We all bitchandmoan when our team is not doing well and it is always the officials....
All I have to say - this Stanley Cup Finals has been a helluva a series! Officials or not. The Wings have the maturity and the Pens have the youth (and did I hear correctly, have more cup rings on the team?)
They all have played very well....Like any of us could last that long on the ice!
Very VERY proud of the Pens and impressed with the Wings...
Still pushing and hoping the Pens win it! The city needs another winning team.
One day, just one day we will have a baseball team again that does well!

Wings players have more rings. Our players have a combined 4 rings. (Roberts, Sykora and ???Sydor??).karat wrote:We all bitchandmoan when our team is not doing well and it is always the officials....

still pushing for the Pens to win!!!
how many times have the Wing brought the cup home?
As far as the number of rings for players ......
Penguins - 4 total ... Sydor - 2; Roberts & Sykora - 1 each
Red Wings - 23 total ... Lindstrom,Holmstrom,Draper,McCarty,Maltby - 3 each; Osgood,Chelios,Rafalski - 2 each; Hasek,Datsyuk - 1 each
Not that it makes much difference once they drop the puck. I don't think they wear them on the ice (wouldn't the extra weight slow them down?) and even if they did, I don't think the rings have any special powers (maybe they should try "SHA-BOOBIES!?!") Although, apparently they do have some alternate uses. One of my favorite "ring related" stories involving Patrick Roy and Jeremy Roenick:
In the 1996 Western Conference semi-finals between the Colorado Avalanche and the Chicago Blackhawks, Jeremy Roenick was stopped by Roy on a break-away during OT in game 4, while apparently being tackled by an Avalanche player. The referees did not call for a penalty shot on the play and the Avalanche won in triple overtime on Joe Sakic's game winning goal. Earlier in game 3, Roenick scored on an unchallenged breakaway to tie the score at 3 and send the game to overtime; the Blackhawks ended up winning the game.
After game 4, Roenick told the media "there should have been a penalty shot [on the play]. I like Patrick's comment when he said he could have stopped me [on the breakaway]. I'd like to know where Patrick was in Game 3, probably up trying to get his jock out of the rafters." Roy retorted with his now-famous line, "I can't really hear what Jeremy says, because I've got my two Stanley Cup rings plugging my ear."

Wings have 15+ rings with 5 players. I count ten Wings in my head that have rings.blackjack wrote:Wings players have more rings. Our players have a combined 4 rings. (Roberts, Sykora and ???Sydor??).karat wrote:We all bitchandmoan when our team is not doing well and it is always the officials....
