Johnson, I shared your picture on a picture with some friends on another site weight loss thread. They are all amazed. I was wondering if you could write a short paragraph on how you did it and how long it took you. I think your story is very inspiring and I'd like to share it with others if that is okay.

I started in February 2008. I began just by walking, everyday and by the end of the year I had lost 40 pounds. At the beginning of 2009, I started using the 10 Minute Trainer workout program, and continued to walk. 10 Minute Trainer is a workout program offered by
http://www.teambeachbody.com, the programs are all 10 minutes. There is cardio, yoga and ab videos, also upper and lower body workouts that use resistance bands. I started eating better, mostly a lot of chicken, ground turkey and salads. Getting involved in discussions about eating healthy and working out gave me some great tips.
Instead of eating 3 small meals, I started eating at least 5 a day and started seeing improvement in my stamina, cardio, and strength. In July I started running, a short distance that continued to get longer with each run. In November I started P90X, the big thing with the program was pushing myself to get out of my comfort zone. To dig down and push myself harder than I had before. I also started eating even better than I had previously. The program comes with a nutrition guide that if I didn't follow exactly, I would follow the basic principles. Managing my portion size was one of the key things I started doing as well.
Now, I'm on my second round of P90X. I'm working out between 60 minutes to 3 hours a day, depending on that days workout and anything I add myself. Two of the most important things I've learned is to stay hydrated and to make sure I stay properly "fueled". One of the workouts says "You can do anything for 30 seconds." That's true I could, but I would have to pause after each 30 seconds. Now I can do the whole workout straight through. Never giving up, never quitting, keep going, I wanted to, each and everyday. I couldn't let myself do that, I kept coming back each day stumbling and struggling and now I still stumble and struggle, but I keep coming back and I get better, stronger, faster.
If you have any more specific questions let me know and I'll do my best to answer those.

It seems like it's been a crazy couple of weeks. And with things calming down, I decided to get my bike out. My parents got me the bike about ten years ago when I moved away for college and it pretty much didn't move. Now with my new place I have some great trails right across the street from me. Just one question, does anyone know if they make training wheels for adult bikes?
I think I'll spend a little time riding around my place before I take off on it.

you'll be fine...riding a bike is like, well...riding a bike!
i need to get out and riding, too...but, it's really cold and gloomy here!!! ran 2 miles yesterday and went to step this morning. down 38 lbs...working my way down. found a quote i really liked the other day and thought i would post it here. "this is your world. shape it or someone else will." may not motivate everyone, but it motivates me to keep on going in my weight loss journey. anyway, hope everyone is doing well...would love to hear how you all are doing lately. this thread has been kind of quiet lately.

WEEK 15 was kind of disappointing because I have to guess at how many steps I did, since I had another pedometer disaster.

(Just too, too OCBD!!...but it does keep me focused on walking as much as I can and from being sedentary.)
WEEK 15 May 6-May 12TH May6—12,500=4.7
FR May 7—12,500=4.7
SA May 8—12,500=4.7
SU—May 9—12,500=4.7
MO—May 10—12,500=4.7
TU May 11—11,634=4.4
WE May 12—10,013=3.8
TOTAL 84,147STEPS=31.7MILES
(On Tuesday I worked at a garden tour and swept all the patios in the garden and it was really hot. I checked the pedo at one point and it was over 5000 from walking and working…when I looked after coming home and working with mulching, my pedo was full of water. Can you say sweat??? Good ole Texas humidity... I took it apart and dried it out and it worked…but I lost all the data in the memory. Each day was between 10,000 and 15,000, so I put down 12,500 as an estimate of what I actually stepped each day.)

I've had about 15 or 16 days that I have not reached 10,000 steps, but many days I did over 15,000.
I learned that when I tried to do 35 miles a week it was a bit too much for me, especially since I started adding 1-3 pound hand weights to my walks.
I do feel energized most of the time.
It's amazing that although I thought I was doing a lot of steps before, it really does take a lot more effort and time than I thought it would. Many days I have to walk at night to complete at least 10,000 and shoot for 13,200 steps.
Totally ready for Buffett in TEXAS next week!
My partner and I shot a 73 in a scramble today and won 2nd place and $45 each.

Fun fun...

Just got back from our trip to St. Augustine. (awesome time had by all). For the first time in 10 years i went to the beach (and to the pool) and took off my shirt. It felt great to swim with my kids and not be winded or worried about my weight. We were 4 beach bums just hanging out for a week.

How fun and HEALTHY!!!
Time to walk for me! Last night's Buffett show on BN Setlist was good fun and I splurged and went to Starbucks for Frappacino and blueberry scone this morning and didn't start the day walking.

(blueberries are antioxidants!!!)
I can tell my Buffett week is gonna be different...

But, standing a wiggling for a few hours should be healthy...
