Re: HEALTHY LIVING
Warrior Dash on Saturday!!!!!!
Last year they did it in KC in August and at least one person died, they thought it would be smarter to do it in May, I think they are calling for it to be in the 90s. My brother in law has been in KS since 98, and he's only from Nebraska and can't handle the heat very well.
And they signed up to do it at 2 in the afternoon, so I'm hoping I don't have to carry people to the finish line.
Saw these today at the local running store.

Re: HEALTHY LIVING
That was AWESOME!!!!! Fun, fun, fun!!!!!
My brother in law and I ran it together. My sister had to watch the kids. We are putting together a team for next year. We ran it, a lot of people walked it. Last year in KC, at least one person died. They did it in July or August, it was a lot hotter than they expected I'm sure.
The obstacles, really surprised us, easier than we expected.
A lot of people just ran over the fire, man we got up and jumped over it. Damn it was fun!!!!

Re: HEALTHY LIVING
I've started adding coconut oil to my diet.....using it on my skin....been a little over a week and I can't believe the difference! My tummy feels better than it has in a long time. I'm rapidly becoming a believer in the benefits!
http://www.organicfacts.net/organic-oil ... t-oil.html
http://www.coconutresearchcenter.org/
“Coconut oil has been used as both a food and a medicine for centuries in many cultures throughout the world. Traditional forms of medicine use coconut oil for a wide variety of health problems, ranging from the treatment of burns and constipation to gonorrhea and influenza. Modern medical research is now confirming the effectiveness of coconut oil for many of these conditions. Research over the past several decades has demonstrated that the medium-chain fatty acids in coconut oil are digested and metabolized differently from those of other fats. This difference gives the oil many health benefits obtained from no other source.
Easy to Digest (Helpful for infants, the elderly, and those with digestive issues)
Medium-chain triglycerides in coconut oil don’t require pancreatic enzymes or bile for digestion. They are easy to digest, making them ideal for infants, cystic fibrosis patients, and those who have digestive problems, including those with gall bladder disease and those who have had their gallbladders removed.
Coconut oil useful for malnutrition
Coconut oil has been recommended for use in the treatment of malnutrition because it provides a quick and easy source of nutrition without taxing the enzyme systems of the body. It also improves the absorption of minerals (particularly calcium and magnesium) B vitamins, and fat soluble vitamins (A, D, E, and K and Beta-carotene), as well as some amino acids.
Coconut oil helpful for losing weight, getting energy and improving thyroid function
The MCFA’s in coconut oil are used by the body to produce energy, not make body fat. Coconut oil stimulates metabolism, increase energy and improves thyroid function, all of which aid in reducing unwanted body fat. For these reasons, coconut oil has gained a reputation as being the world’s only natural low-calorie fat. Researchers have recommended the oil as a means to prevent and even treat obesity.
Coconut oil is Heart Healthy
Coconut oil is heart healthy. It does not negatively affect blood cholesterol, does not promote platelet stickiness that leads to blood clot formation and does not collect in the arteries. Coconut oil posses anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and antioxidant properties, all of which protect arteries from atherosclerosis and from heart disease. Those people around the world who consume the most coconut oil have the lowest rates of heart disease. this is true even for those populations who get as much as 50 percent of their daily calories from saturated fat, primarily from coconut oil.
Coconut oil is helpful for fighting against yeast, bacterial, fungi, and parasites
The MCFAs possess powerful antimicrobial properties that kill a variety of disease-causing bacteria, fungi, viruses and parasites, yet they do not harm friendly gut bacteria or contribute to antibiotic resistance. Coconut oil may be of great help to those with common infections such as influenza and candida as well as more serious problems like HIV.
Because of its resistance to free-radical formation and its ability to support the immune system, coconut oil may be useful in preventing or treating a wide assortment of conditions, many of which aren’t even discussed in this book. Medical research and health care workers are discovering new health benefits associated with coconut oil all the time.”

Congrats on 5s, Paige!!
Glad you had a good time running, Jarred.
I'm going to read more about the coconut. I'm sure that doesn't include the Coconut Fudge Blue Bell Ice Cream. I gotta get off that kick.
Charts for BMI have me as normal. I want to be better than normal, cause it's making me so uncomfortable. I already started Crestor to get THAT under control. UGH! I can do it when I put my mind to it.

Ah, if ONLY! I am going to start incorporating coconut oil into more of my cooking/baking. It still has a subtle, but distinctive coconut flavor that I think will add nice flavor.....and if it's even *a little* better for you....why not!conched wrote:Congrats on 5s, Paige!!

After many tries, Crestor was the cholesterol medication that I landed on and worked the best for me. Grateful I'm off all of them now, but that was definitely the winner

Wonderful that you could get off of Crestor.
It feels like such an easy fix after losing the battle for the last 3 years.

For me, it was completely diet related so THAT was the easy fix. I have good genes, no genetic health problems....in my family we kill ourselves....but we've got a good, solid base!

Re: HEALTHY LIVING
My mom had heard about coconut oil and picked me up some. Then I started hearing a lot more people talking about it. I've been lazy about using it but I think I'll add it in more now, great info. Thanks!

Re: HEALTHY LIVING
Well, I'm a believer.....almost to the point of becoming an evangelist. I talked to my doctor about it and he was telling me about the antimicrobial properties. He said that he always recommends it to people with ulcers from h.pylori. I guess there is some research that says coconut oil is more effective than any medication against h.pylori. He says if the microbe is food borne....like e.coli or salmonella....coconut oil is apparently very effective. He said once it's gone to a full blown "outbreak" or whatever you want to call it, there needs to be rx intervention....but as a prevention method, coconut oil is the shizz.johnson2113 wrote:My mom had heard about coconut oil and picked me up some. I've stopped using all of my uber expensive "night creams" and stuff for my face and just using coconut oil at night. The difference in my skin is noticable, at least to me....and since we tend to be our own harshest critics.....I think that's a WIN!
Now I've started giving it to my dogs.....tsp a day.
Going to have to start buying it in bulk! I haven't really started cooking with it yet....but that's next!

Re: HEALTHY LIVING
I put a tablespoon in my protein shake in the morning.....pair8head wrote:OK so how do you use Coconut Oil?
I spread it on graham crackers like butter....
I eat a lot of rice...and I've found that brown rice with a tablespoon of brown sugar and a tablespoon of coconut oil is a tasty treat!
I try to make sure I get 3 tablespoons a day....and I don't mind just eating a spoonful, like you do peanut butter!
I'm looking at some recipes and ways to use it for cooking....much lower heat than with other oils, but I think it would be good for baking.
It's a solid at under 75 degrees....becomes liquid over that.
I've had the worst problems with my stomach over that last few months....had days that I literally could keep nothing down...it may just be coincidence, but since I've started using it my tummy has felt better than it has in a long, long time.
I read an article that some beef ranchers got a bunch of coconut at a super cheap price and were using it as a filler to feed their cattle....and the cattle kept losing weight in spite of them feeding the same amount of the regular food....they took them off the coconut and they started gaining weight again.
I know that there is a "super food" of the week all of the time.....but this is the first time I've tried one (and I'm a sucker for trying every johnny come lately fad) and actually felt like there was a difference.
As far as "cosmetic" uses.....I keep some in the bathroom and just use it as a moisturizer....have found that it is fantastic for tattoos....healed my last one up beautifully! I have super dry skin and nasty eczema on my legs (TMI) I've seen a big difference in the just short time I've used it. It just soaks into your skin so fast...and smells good, too! I know that it's all natural....so that's nice.

Re: HEALTHY LIVING
I think I'm gonna have to try it. I have a problem with H Pylori that I went thru the regular treatment and it seemed to work but it's come roaring back lately. A little research showed me that the suggested use of Virgin Coconut oil is three teaspoons a day and it actually kills the bacteria on contact. The same can be said for olive oil.
