Dodge pop up

... which is what I want to do...

I have my pop-up blocker activated, but just today I started getting this Dodge pop-up here on BN every time I try to post or read Latest Posts... Is this new on Buffett News, or am I the only one?

Could it be I have some kind of advertising-virus on my computer?
If so, how do I get rid of it?

I assume you are using explorer. Try this:

Tools
Internet Options
Privacy
Pop-up blocker - Settings

See if the site for the pop-up is listed under allowed sites. Is it is delete it.
If not set the Filter Level to High.

Do you have any anti-spyware programs like Spybot or Ad-Aware? If so update them and run them.

Thank you, Super Trooper!!! I'll do that... [smilie=coolup.gif]

Okay... I have those ads that cover up the real ads on every site I go to, like they say "Watch Jessica Simpson's wet T-shirt video" and other garbage.

So I definitely need spybot or Ad-Aware. Which do you, or anybody, recommend?

I don't recommend spybot unless you're real comfortable with what you're doing. Ad-aware is good, and more user friendly.

Could you post the link to the video? :pirate:

Gee, I use Spybot and Ad-Aware exactly the same way. I just download the latest updates and run the scan. I clean whatever it suggests and I've never had any kind of problems. They both catch different things. Nothing catches everything.

carolinagirl, do you have an anti-virus like Macafee or Norton? If so, update and run a scan.

Here's another trick to try:

When the pop-up comes up, RIGHT CLICK on it, go to Properties, and copy the web address.

Then:

Tools
Internet Options
Privacy - "Sites" button
copy the address into the box and hit "Block".
OK

If all else fails you can try a "System Restore".

START
Control Panel
Performance & Maintenance
System Restore (upper left corner)
Follow the instruction to reset your system to a date BEFORE the problems started.

GOOD LUCK!!!

I use Pop-Up Stopper, available from http://www.panicware.com. It stops damn near everything, except for a very occasional popup and those annoying ads that creep across your page on some sites.

I've vowed to never buy from anyone who uses invasive online adverts. If enough people did likewise and realized they were *costing* business rather than bringing it in...maybe things would change.

I do have Symantec and have run scans over and over. I'm downloading Ad Aware now, so I got to go... Next is the Spybot. Thanks again for your help, Super Trooper, SharkonLand and Tropical Troubadour.

I agree. The Rolling Rock ad totally diverted me from Buffett News, and was a video about how they blue up a mountain when they were trying to shine a Rolling Rock logo on the moon. What a waste of talent to make me think I'll drink RR because they make me NOT be able to view the sites I want to view!

Right now, I get this annoying beeping thing saying I won, and congratulations that inserts itself over the real Buffett News ads.

I'll let you know what works!

Another way to get around this is to use a browser other than Internet Explorer. I have to use IE at work, but at home I use Firefox. I'm also thinking about trying the new Safari for PC from Apple.

Okay. I thought it was free!

I went to Ad Aware and clicked on the download. It downloaded Spyware Doctor, which ran a scan and detected 22 threats and 411 infections. Then I check all of them to be removed, and click remove. It says I couldn't remove them without a registered version of Spyware Doctor. "To purchase Spyware Doctor, please click Purchase Online." When I clicked that, it times out without opening the page, so I'm stuck.

Okay now, it opened the page and it says it's $29.95. Sigh.

Now I see I clicked on something else "Spyware and Trojan Remover."
My popup blocker is blocking the Ad Aware from downloading.

Sounds like whatever you've got is redirecting your browser from the real site.

It's called Ad-Aware, not "Spyware Doctor" or anything else....

Try this link: http://www.download.com/Ad-Aware-2007/3 ... d=10837062

Hold your Ctrl button down when you click on the "Download Now" button, that should override your pop-up blocker to allow the download.

Also, here's a free online antivirus scan that might help as well. A lot of viruses will target and disable antivirus software on your machine, so it can't hurt to use a trusted online scan every so often.

We use Advanced Windows Care! We downloaded it from this site:

www.IObit.com

It is free for personal use. Pretty good at keeping your puter running smooth!

Take the FREE version. The Beta version is their newest, but it is a work still in progress!

Hope it helps.Carolina Girl!
