Did Shrimpboat Sound get torn down?

We're planning our trip to Key West and of course want to see Jimmy's recording studio. A friend who just returned from there said that the building she thought was Shrimpboat was gone and a big fence put up. I sure hope she has the wrong spot because I was really looking forward to seeing it. Does anybody know whats up?

It's still there. Some of the buildings across the way were torn down and have been replaced with a monstrosity of condos, but Shrimpboat is still there.

or rather, I should say.... it was there in January.... if it's gone, that's a brand new development and I'd stop breathing along with the rest of you..... someone call KW, fast.....

If there's a plan afoot to tear it down I think we should all pull a "Hoot" or go lay down in front of it or something.

I can confirm that Shrimpboat Sound was there as of 3 weeks ago.....

But if there's a BN contingent heading for Key West to personally verify that fact.......count me in!!!!!

I have heard rumors that the Schooner Wharf bar may be torn down at some point. This would be due to the new condo project across the street from Shrimpboat Sound and Schooner Wharf. I hope this is incorrect. The Schooner Wharf is one of the few remaining true Key West haunts still left.

If building a new resort to smash an icon is not progress in my opinion.

If they do tear down Schooner Wharf who nows what will happen with Jimmy's studio. They'll probably build the new resort all around it and choke off the charm of the Historical Seaport.

The deal with Schooner is that it is on city owned land, and I'm sure it's more valuable to the city, tax wise, as a resort than it is as a bar.
