Blues Harp?
We have enjoyed so many songs from Jimmy and others with the harmonica as one of the front line instruments. Just this past weekend he played with Sonny Landreth who plays a mean slide style guitar. I miss seeing or hearing any "harpoon men" playing up front these days with Jimmy. What do other phans think? These tunes need more blues harps!

I agree. I was thinking about that a while ago.
One of the biggest difference in Jimmy's "later stage" music is the guitar style of Peter Mayer. Don't get me wrong, I think he fits Jimmy's music well, but he has taken the harmonica place, which changes the music styling a lot.
Alot of Jimmy's earlier songs need that harmonica to complete the feel. They were written specifically with that instrument in mind. Replacing those parts with a guitar, specifically Peter's style, to me adds a jazzy component, as opposed to the honky-tonk or folk style they initially had.

I agree ConchRep. Peter's style does add a little jazzy feel to it, but that can't replace the blues harp on those older songs. I wonder if Peter can play the harmonica while playing his six string?

Actually, most of the shows I was at in the 'old' days had waaaaaaaay too much harmonica in many of the songs. It droned on and on and you couldn't help but think, "Make it stop!!" We just wanted to hear Jimmy's voice again.
It would've been nice if it mirrored the sound on the albums, but it was overwhelming IMHO.

For those of you who think there isn't a Buffett song that can't be enhanced with a little harp, and figure you're JUST the person to fill that role...might I suggest
The Harmonicast
Yes, thats right. In just 5 easy lessons (available on iTunes!!!!! for FREE!!!!!) Blue Barry will teach YOU, thats right, YOU how to play blues harmonica!!!!!! Amaze your friends.....stun your family.......get paid to s*** AND blow!!!!!!!!
Guys, you know women LOVE musicians. They don't even care what you look like, if you play in a band!!!!!! (Do I need to mention Ric Ocasek???) Women, umm.......ok guys are easy. They don't care. But still, it'd be pretty cool if you could play!!!!!!!
Don't waste time, order now. (did I mention it's FREE?!?!?!?!?!?) Begin your path to music fame & fortune (think Mark Wahlberg in Rock Star.....well, at least up until 15 or 20 minutes before the end)

I have to be honest. I'm not the fan I once was (I bought my first Buffett album in 1976), and the fact that Fingers is gone is the main reason. Don't get me wrong, I still love the music, but there is something missing, something that Pete Mayer can't provide.
And without Fingers, it will never be the same for me.
