What should I buy? (Smart phone/ PDA)

I need ya'll's wit and wisdom again. :D

My old calendar/planner is falling apart, and my cell phone is getting a little iffy. It may be time to upgrade to some kind of smart phone/PDA that would combine the functions.

I'd like... a keyboard, web browser capability, calendar/datebook, and of course phone cababilities. Smaller is better (needs to fit in my pocket) and I don't want to get into iphone kind of money.

Needs to work on Cingular/AT&T since that's all that really works in my area. :-?

So what would you recommend?

Thanks in advance! :D

~edit! Oh year, I also need to be able to mess with Word docs and such!

Thanks again.

I have the Motorola Q for Verizon I really like it! Pretty easy to use and thin enough to fit in your pocket and not buldge out. I know they are available for AT&T users now also.

If small size is a major factor, go with the Blackberry Pearl. Each key shares two letters, but it has a smart-type feature that works pretty well once you get the hang of it. I think they're down to $100 or so now.

Had a little time to study on it this afternoon...

Anybody got a Pantech Duo? I can upgrade to a refurb model for about $100 and it seems to do a LOT, but is still pretty compact.

Just curious.

I have the Samsung Ace through Sprint, which is basically almost the same design as the Blackjack for AT&T, but mine has more bells and whistles.

Be wary of the refurb models. I think w/ rebate you can get a new one for $199 now.

Isn't Pantech like the Yugo of the mobile phone world?

hmmm.... not sure, really. I know some folks have spoken poorly of Pantechs, but my current phone is a Pantech C-300 (smallest phone I've ever seen - which is why I bought it) and the Pantech Duo has a LOT of stuff in a very small package (would still fit unobtrusively in my pocket.)

On this topic... AT&T said there would be a $30 per month up-charge to go with a phone that has internet capabilities. Seems rather pricey when my plan is under $40 anyway. That normal?

(Thanks to all for all the help, BTW) :D

It is normal to pay extra for a "data plan" that would allow web browsing, email, etc. You get data usage on top of your minutes, they give you so many MBs or KBs of transfer, then you'd have to pay extra for anything over that (or they just cut you off at the limit).
