Tell me about Gulf Shores, AL

Post by spartan1979 »

We're heading there on vacation next month and I really don't know anything about it, other than it has a beach and Lulu's is there. We kind of fell into going there without really looking in to it.

Thanks.

good restaurants, good shopping, white sand beaches, LULU'S !!!!!!!!,
Pink Pony Pub, FLORABAMA !!!, Mikee's Seafood (cheap&good), Zeke's Landing.

Go to: http://www.gulfshores.com and check out all the restaurants and bars and places to stay. We always use Meyer Realty (www.meyerre.com).

we've been going to a quiet, beautiful beach in the Florida Panhandle for many years now and every time we head south for that sugar sand on the Gulf, we drive straight to Gulf Shores because our beach vacation doesn't officially start until we eat lunch at LuLu's 8)

I will say that the traffic getting to Gulf Shores is a bit much to tolerate at times but you do what you got to do, right? At least it's not Destin as far as traffic is concerned

And traffic can be dealt with if you are actually staying on the beach for the week. I've never actually stayed in Gulf Shores so I can't speak about accommodations but there are plenty of condos and beach houses and some terrific little beach bars and restaurants.

My brother-in-law's family has been vacationing in the Gulf Shores area for years and they love it - they always tout the fact that you can build a bon fire on the beach there (something you absolutely can't do in Florida Panhandle) but I'm not so sure that is a good thing since it would junk up the beautiful pure white sand beaches with fire pits and half burned wood.

Anyway, have a great time. The Gulf Coast beaches and seafood are a treasured resource that I have shared with my family for 30 years and will continue to do so as long as I'm able :)

not to mention the fact that one of my favorite people on the planet happened to grow up in that general vicinity
you can't lay on the beach and drink rum all day if you don't start in the morning 8)

Hi - I'm a new member here - found this post via the "new posts" button.

Anyway...we go to Gulf Shores/Perdido every year. It's one of my favorite spots.

If you're willing to make a little drive into Perdido Key, the Shrimp Basket has fantastic seafood. For Mexican food, I love a little place called Monterrey in a strip mall in Orange Beach. Great chile rellenos.

If you're into shopping, the outlet mall in Destin is much better than the one in Foley. However, the one in Foley is much, much closer.

Have a great trip. We're headed there next week and I can't wait :)

Thanks for all the advice. My wife had already made reservations at the Island Winds West. Anybody familiar with that place?

We'll have to catch Brent Burns at LuLu's on Tuesday night. It will be a warmup for when he comes to St. Louis to play at the St. Louis Parrot Head Club Beach Party in August.

there was a good Mexican Rest. in the strip mall on 59 just north of Ft. Morgan Rd, with the Bruno's and Godfather's Pizza. If that is Monterrey's, my apologies.

Besides Lulu's you are required to check out the world famous Flora-bama. Those familiar with the area will agree it prolly was the inspiration for Bama Breeze. Here is the link.

We were satisfied with The Island Winds condos.

http://www.brett-robinson.com/rental_iw.html

They were right off 59 on the beach. There were restaurants and bars within walking distance, not a lot, but a few. And, of course, souvenir shops. IT was pretty easy to get to where you wanted from there. Our condo would have been good for 2-3 couples.
