Let me preface this with: I'm certainly not an environmentalist nut job and please don't take this as a personal attack. I'm just giving my perspective on what you said.
If we rely more on alternative sources and the demand for oil goes down, then the price will as well unless the oil companies are set on maintaining their enormous profit margins.Wino you know wrote: Build more nuclear plants
Expand coal mining.
If the supply goes UP, the price will go DOWN! (DUH)!
What is wrong with using alternative energy if it's cheaper, more efficient and helps the environment?Wino you know wrote:I'm tired of the talk of alternative energy sources.![]()
I disagree. I think we need long term solutions. Otherwise we're just sweeping the problem under the carpet and leaving it for our kids to clean up.Wino you know wrote:My car runs on GASOLINE, not switch grass or wood chips.![]()
We need SHORT TERM solutions
I can tell you that if I wanted to take my family on a road trip to Florida or elsewhere, gas prices as they are now would make that more difficult. A more efficient vehicle would lower my cost per mile just like drilling in ANWR would.Wino you know wrote: If you can afford to take your kids on vacation, you can afford to fill up your gas tank.
Wino you know wrote:AND WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH SUSPENDING THE OBSCENE GASOLINE TAX, or at least reducing it, for Christ's sake?
Nothing
Day to day life for average Joe's is getting more difficult. With the economy suffering and the housing market in bad shape, people just starting out in family life, such as myself, are having a hard time across the board. I do agree that increasing oil production domestically would lower prices and ease the pressure on US citizens somewhat. But, being less dependent on oil overall would do the same and have more positive side effects.
