Did You Change Your Memorial Day Weekend Plans?

Post by Bfan53 »

Just curious, with all the depressing economic news in recent months, how many BNers changed their Memorial Day weekend plans this year? Drive less? Decided just to stay home?

Inquiring minds what to know........ :pirate:

No, can't say I did. Then again, I never go anywhere for Memorial Day. They have a big festival in my town all weekend and then there is a parade on Monday. It didn't seem like any of my coworkers have changed their plans. They all seem to be heading to the Jersey shore or OC, Maryland.

The weather has been crappy, so we didn't plan anything......however, the gas prices are causing us to re-evaluate our summer plans.....more motorcycle trips, less RV trips.....

No change

drove a couple hours over to Sarasota for a pool party yesterday

We stay home anyway but I definitely have altered even my local travel plans overall, not just this weekend, because of gas prices.

We traveled more on Memorial Day weekend this year.

We drove over to Penny's parents' home to celebrate my sister-in-law's birthday.

driving across the interstate highways yesterday,
it definitely looked like there were fewer SUVs and more cars on the road.

We usually don't do anything special for Memorial Day. I had hoped to get in four rounds of golf this weekend, but the incessant rain has reduced that to probably only one, and it rained during that round. This, in turn, has resulted in more time hanging out with the neighbors and eating more than I should and consuming more beer than I should.

Memorial Day weekend and Labor Day weekend we always stay home.....it's the ONLY sane thing to do in So. Cal., the freeways are crazy those two holidays. Besides we live at the beach, why go anywhere......

No, not for this weekend, we don't usually travel on Memorial Day.

I have altered my driving habits on a daily basis though.

Trying to carpool with pharmboy when I can talk him into it, and also do not come home every day for lunch anymore. Would also sometimes go across town to the mall, to get out of the office, and kill a lunch break, but not anymore.

Well I knew I wouldn't be doing much of anything due to taking classes a semesters worth of classes in 3 weeks time, but wasn't expecting to get sick either. I haven't been out of the house since Thursday afternoon. Feeling better now, but just catching up with classwork.

Sounds like most of us traditionally stay fairly close to home for Memorial Day.....given the heavy traffic most years that's not a bad idea! :o

But I have begun consciously watching my driving trips recently due to the high price of gas..... :x

I wish I could have changed my plans but I couldn't find anyone to cut the grass, stain the deck and plant the summer annuals around the house. I was able to log 2.5 hours of flight time and another hour of cruising on the motorcycle. The weather was incredible in the Philly area. The dogs even enjoyed being outside under the trees for most of the day.

I went on a dive trip for the long weekend. I took Friday off and 6 of us drove 4 hours (in 2 SUVs) to the NH coast. We dove a shore dive Friday evening and then BBQ'ed that evening. Saturday we made 3 dives at Nubble Light in York, Maine (one a night dive) and got home around 11pm. Sunday we took a dive boat out to the Isle of Shoals and made 2 dives, one diving with the Harbor Seals. We got home around 9pm Sunday night and I've spent today doing laundry, cleaning gear and napping.
Awesome weekend. i'll post some pictures I took on the dives once I get them sorted.

Drove 3 hrs to NYC and didn't notice a lot of traffic (but I'm glad I wasn't driving to the beach!)

Several people told me that traffic on the interstates/turnpike in central PA over the long weekend didn't seem to be as heavy as in past years.......
