Saratoga
I went though the list of buffett concert dates on this site and found no listing for Saratoga Performing arts center in NY. When I was younger(much), I thought he did at least one show there in the early eighties. Anyone else remember this????

I'm actually surprised SPAC doesnt send offers to Jimmy anymore (at least it looks like they dont). Either that or Jimmy denies all their requests. It is a fantastic and beautiful venue that carries A LOT of big name artists every year. I would much rather take a JB show at SPAC than MSG. Not to mention it is a LiveNation amphitheatre too...

Saratoga
What a dream. the most beautiful racetrack in the afternoon and straight to SPAC to party and hear jimmy buffett live. Two quick Saratoga stories
1-my wife is expecting our oldest daughter back in 96 she's 2 weeks late and decides that she needs to get away. we end up in Saratoga, wanted to name her Saratoga, didn't have the guts.
2-have instructed my wife that when I (hopefully not for a long time) pass on
to run across the finish line after the Whithney Handicap and spinkle my ashes.

SPAC was a great venue to see concerts, althought I think I only saw a few shows there. What I remember more about Saratoga was going out to all bars downtown and drinking. I went to school in Troy and when it was someone's 21 b-day, we'd take them up there and get them hammered. The last stop was some bar which I don't remember the name of (go figureTropicalTroubador wrote:I left the area before Buffett started touring...but I remember some *excellent* concerts at SPAC...(*nostalgic sigh*)

RPI, right? That's about the only thing worthwhile in Troy...Hockey Mon wrote:SPAC was a great venue to see concerts, althought I think I only saw a few shows there. It was something like 4 or 5 shots in a beer. That pretty much finished you for the night.
I think part of the reason why Jimmy doesn't play there might have to do with the size of the venue. Unless they've redone it, it seats only about 5000, and the lawn is theoretically rated for another 5K.
That said...I was at the infamous Who concert in 1970, at which the official attendance was 35,272 - I think that's still the record. There were people hanging off of everything in the ampitheater, crowded cheek-to-cheek on the lawn, and I'm sure there were folks coming in unofficially over the chain-link fence.
And then there was the Blood, Sweat, and Tears 4th of July show there one year, at which someone set off a string of firecrackers inside the ampitheater (the lawn was a war zone), and David Clayton-Thomas interrupted the final chorus of "You Made Me So Very Happy" to remark, "I hope you blow your balls off!" He then seamlessly finished the song.
Damn...I miss that place...and $5 lawn seating.

Yeah, good old RPI. I thought it was bigger than that but I'm obviously wrong. That is cool about The Who; a concert to remember.TropicalTroubador wrote:RPI, right? I coached at Union College for 6 years(ending in '04) so
RPI was our chief rival
I could be wrong, but when I went to see James Taylor
in 03 or 04 someone said that a JB show wouldn't be likely
there because SPAC didn't like the idea of the all day
tailgates(not to mention the small venue size).
Again, just what I heard, not sure it was based on fact.

Dave Matthews plays there every year, along with some other country artists, so there is tailgating. Obviously not NEARLY to the extent of a JB concert, so that IS probably one of the reasons.finz2oob wrote:I coached at Union College for 6 years(ending in '04) so

I have a friend from school that's going/went to the DMB concert there this year and was trying to convince me to go because "it's one big party". I kinda couldn't help but chuckle when I heard that because I don't think she quite knew the scope of Buffett tailgatesUpstateNYPH wrote:Dave Matthews plays there every year, along with some other country artists, so there is tailgating. Sometimes more than others,
we see who and what and where we are,
I'm just a one man band,
With my feet in the sand,
Tonight I just need my guitar
