WTG Shannon.......you're a stripper!
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Pinot Noir in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming "WOO HOO"

Where I see the day
When my hair's full gray
and I finally...disappear. BUT NOT YET!!

Back when I was in the Navy it seemed like every time my ship went to sea we went thru a Hurricane.

September of 75 after we commisioned the Spruance we left port in an effort to avoid one that was coming in the Gulf. We failed to make it and had to ride right thru that sucker.

After that I think the next 4 times we put to sea we were in or very near a Hurricane. Shannon my hat's off to you guys but I don't think I'd ever take a ticket on that particular E-Ride.

I do not remember Hurricane Fifi. Or Lili. Or Fabian.

But I suppose some people do.

In 2002 I bought t-shirts in the Outer Banks for all my family members saying, "I survived Hurricane Bonnie." [smilie=battingeyes.gif]

I remember one year there were so many hurricanes that they seemed to use up all the names on the list. Dave Barry wrote a column saying they had to start over with AA and BB.... I think he said AA was hurricane Aardvark and BB was "Hurricane Boutros Boutros." I love Dave Barry!

Awesome!! :D

I work with a guy who was a kid when he and his family survived Hurricane Andrew in Miami. He, his parents, his brother and the dog spent 13 hours jammed together in the bathroom closet. When they came out, the only thing left standing in the house was the bathroom closet..... :o

I've been caught in the Gulf Stream in a Force 10 gale (50+ kts wind, 30+ ft seas) in a 44 ft sailboat. We were blown 300 miles toward England. I was pretty sure I wasn't going to live to see the next day. Terrified? You bet.....

I do not know the sea conditions this particualr night (I was below decks) other then to say that an aircraft carrier that displaces 95,000+ tons when fully loaded was rocking terribly. That night we lost 3 sailors overboard and only got 2 of them back. this would have been sometime in the late 80's early 90's off the coast of Florida or Georgia if I remember right.

From the US Dwight D Eisenhower CVN 69 website:

October 31, 1989 90 miles southeast of Cape Hattera, NC A wave sweeps three sailors and 38 non-nuclear missiles from the USS EISENHOWER during night-time cargo loading. One sailor is drowned and two are rescued.

I was little off on location, but I didn't think we were that close to our homeport of Norfolk, VA. Also if I remember correctly we had two waves come into the hanger bay as cargo/aircraft were being moved from the flight deck to the hanger bay.
