Little Feat's new album: Join the Band (with JB on 2 songs)

Post by nycfeat »

Little Feat's new album, Join the Band, will be available on August 26th (day before the JB Jones Beach show). If you're so inclined, you can pre-order at Amazon. Oh yeah, this was recorded at Jimmy's studio in the Key West.

On the album:

1. Fat Man in the Bathtub - featuring Dave Matthews
2. Something in the Water - featuring Bob Seger
3. Oh Atlanta - featuring Chris Robinson
4. Sailin' Shoes - featuring Emmylou Harris
5. Time Loves a Hero - featuring Jimmy Buffett
6. Dixie Chicken - featuring Vince Gill
7. Willin' - featuring Brooks & Dunn
8. Champion of the World - Jimmy Buffett
9. This Land Is Your Land - featuring Mike Gordan
10. Trouble - featuring Inara George
11. Don't Ya Just Know It - Little Feat
12. Spanish Moon - featuring Vince Gill
13. Weight - featuring Béla Fleck
14. See You Later Alligator - Little Feat

Hmm...Emmylou Harris doing Sailin Shoes instead of Sam Bush. He does a great version of the song.

Should be great to hear Brooks and Dunn doing Willin'

anyone else got this yet? It's been available on itunes for a couple of weeks now which kinda surprises me that they would have it for download almost 2 months before going on sale in hardcopy.
It's not bad, I've never been a big fan of these type of releases where an artist or band brings it a bunch of big names to guest of their albums but there are a copy of decent tunes here. Something In The Water w/Bob Seger is good and Dixie Chicken w/Vince Gill is not bad. Champion Of The World w/Buffett isn't too bad either. All in all it's worth getting but I would have much rather had a new Little Feat studio release instead just them doing some of the cover tunes here.

Thanks for the heads up. I have always been a fan of the Feat. I saw them open for the Neville Brothers a few years back. What a show!

I downloaded Time Loves a Hero, The Weight and Fat Man in the Bathtub...I thought all of them were good. Buffett sounds good and so does Bela Fleck.

Little Feat, "Join the Band" (429 Records). Little Feat teams up with rock royalty including Jimmy Buffett, Dave Matthews, Emmylou Harris, Chris Robinson, Bob Seger, Vince Gill and many more on hits including "Dixie Chicken" and "Oh Atlanta."
from http://www.miamiherald.com/entertainmen ... 53976.html

but shouldn't that say, JB, DM, etc team up with ROCK ROYALTY, LITTLE FEAT????

The weakeast track is the Brooks & Dunn remake. I have heard "Willin'" done much better by others. Also, I have heard better versions of "Spanish Moon". JMO.

I received my copy of this album yesterday, and I just finished listening to it. I love it. Also, I noticed in the posted track listing that I will Play for Gumbo is not listed, and it is the last song on the album. The highlights for me are:

1. Fat Man in the Bathtub - featuring Dave Matthews
2. Something in the Water - featuring Bob Seger
3. Oh Atlanta - featuring Chris Robinson
5. Time Loves a Hero - featuring Jimmy Buffett
6. Dixie Chicken - featuring Vince Gill
8. Champion of the World - Jimmy Buffett
9. This Land Is Your Land - featuring Mike Gordan
11. Don't Ya Just Know It - Little Feat
13. Weight - featuring Béla Fleck
14. See You Later Alligator - Little Feat
15. I Will Play for Gumbo (don't know who is featured on this track. Someone will have to look at the track listing on the CD and post it.)

Now even though Little Feat have been around for a long time I was not familiar with them until I landed on RadioMargaritaville last year and started listening to Feats At Five. The nice thing about becoming a fan of Jimmy Buffett's is that it also opened the door for me to listen to all different kinds of music. I definitely would recommend this album to anyone who is just becoming familiar with the music of Little Feat.

I Will Play for Gumbo is the bonus track on the US version of the disc. The European version and ITunes don't.

I ordered it from Amazon and it came in Saturday's mail. I've only listened to it twice so far but I'm liking it.

I bought it and have listened a few times. Pretty good stuff. I really like Fat Man in the Bathtub with Dave Matthews and Something in the Water with Bob Seger.

I picked mine up at Target on sales and it had the bonus I Will Play for Gumbo. I didn't like that as much as I thought I would. I guess I expected them to add a little more flavor to the gumbo.

The liner notes are pretty interesting, do they come with the Itunes download?
