. .got a question. .
. .my car is a 2000 Corolla . .all is still great with it . . except for my headlight covers . .
. .they are made of plastic, and over the years of sun and heat . . well . .let's just say their output is about the wattage of my night lights . .
. .I saw on TV a local info segment describing a new process to " refinish " them . . .
. .anyone ever had this done . . ? ?
. . they claimed it was much cheaper than replacement . . but still showed a price of several hundred $$ . .

Was it Billy Mays doing the advertising??
I'd google the name of the product and see if you can find any complaints about it.
Honestly - I think a lot of the stuff they sell on TV is basically snake oil.

Hmmm... the refinish thing may work, but I'd be wary.
I'd suggest getting a mechanically minded friend to check into finding you some replacement headlight covers from the local junkyard.
good luck.

Funny you should post this today...
Just yesterday I got an email from my car dealer "selling" me on this service.
I had never heard of such a thing before I got it.
JFYI, here is the
link he had embedded in his email.

another thing to think about is that most of the plexi headlights can be buffed back into a clear state as long as you use the correct type of compounds. I have done this to headlights using Meguiars PlastX and they were just as clear as new once done.

Have replacement headlights really gotten so expensive that "refinishing" them costs less? Or is this just a scam?
Last time I checked, replacement headlights weren't all that pricey:

It really depends on the car. We had a Pontiac minivan (ugh!) a few years ago, and while at a restaurant, someone STOLE the headlight covers!
Dealership nailed us for $300 + to replace them (and that was after shopping around... one dealer wanted a LOT more.)

just replace them. order them from toyota.com and have someone you know put them in . . . it is like a total of 8 screws and 2 brackets.
