a line from the song refers to his green label. Can anyone verify exactly what is his "green label"? Thanks

I always thought it referred to Jack Daniel's whiskey.........
the one with less age in the barrel.

I always thought it referred to Johnnie Walker. Never knew about the rum.

Yet another question that now bothers me so. :-?

I imagined it was a Caribbean beer, like Red Stripe....
The Rum sounds very likely...
Nice to know at last: thanks for all that tough research!

We were listeng to that song in the car last week and we wondered which drink and brand he was referring to. Hadn't had time to search the possibilities yet.

Thanks for posting this.

Here is a powerful video featuring Eddie Balchowsky:

No wonder Jimmy felt compelled to write a song about him:

I think it was probably tea. :)

http://www.mediaburn.org/Video-Preview. ... ?&uid=5630

A portrait of Eddie Balchowsky, who volunteered in the Spanish Civil War as part of the Abraham Lincoln Brigade. A singer, pianist, and artist, he tells of the political awakening that led him to join the fight against Franco. However, after only a week as a soldier, Balchowsky's right arm was blown off, which led to a decades-long fight with depression, alcoholism, and drug addiction. Interwoven throughout the piece are Balchowsky's paintings and collages, featuring dark and splintered imagery, and his more enthusiastic piano-playing and singing.
