Garrett is interviewing for the Lions job...if he leaves, I can see Phillips getting canned and Shanny taking over. Then we will see a sequel to Jones/Jimmy Johnson...Shanny and Jones will be buds and built the team back up "together" until Shanny gets sick of Jones interfering and leaves like JJ did....and the 'boys will sink back to the level they are today under Jone's untimate football knowledge. Jones ego is too big for him to sit back and just be the owner, but until he does, Dallas is doomed to be a mediocre team.

I think you are right but the media will have a field day asking Jerry Jones why he lied at the end of the season about having the coaching staff in place.
If you want an experience, go to a Jimmy Buffett concert.
Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.
It wouldn't surprise me if Jones has privately told Garrett to go find a job so he can make this happen. If Garrett leaves, Jones just says that with Garretts departure, and the availability of a coach of Shanny's stature, he'd be foolish to pass up the chance to bring him to Dallas. The media would eat it up.

For the coach, not so much the team. I have been podering that question alot these past couple of days.
“After 14 years, it was time to go in a different direction,” Bowlen said, repeating the simplest and ultimate reason for the decision.
Of all the names being thrown out to replace Shanahan—Bill Cowher, Bill Parcells, Scott Pioli, Bob Stoops—none resonated louder than Elway’s, most likely as a front-office type. The former quarterback has a nose for business and wants back in the game. He has not been contacted, nor ruled out, by Bowlen.
In a way they're sort of right about having to go in a different direction... A team is ONLY as good as its playbook and sometimes it takes a new coach with a new set of plays.
(Of course that's why I think the Bears ultimately need to go in a different direction as well on the defensive side... I just don't see the current set of plays as being very beneficial to the players that are on the field)
This is amazing. As of 5 PM last night, both the Minnesota and Arizona games could be blacked out in their local markets because they hadn't sold out their respective games yet.
They will hire a dedicated GM/President of Football operations, and a separate head coach. Shanahan's way of having total control obviously didn't work these last few years.
They'll hire a defensive minded head coach, likely a Def. Coordinator from somewhere, like Spagnuolo (sp?) from the Giants, or the guy from the Titans.
I think they will keep Jeremy Bates on as the Off. Coordinator. He's got a good relationship with Cutler, and they'll want the QB happy. Besides, there wasn't much wrong with the offense, aside from the 12,000 running backs they had to go through. Rumor has it that he was calling the plays instead of Shanny anyway.
I truly think change will be good for the Broncos. I was shocked when I heard they were letting him go, but I think we could see it coming, especially with the horrendous collapse they had this year. Mediocrity over 3 seasons just doesn't cut it, especially with the offensive talent they've got. It would've just taken some semblance of a defense for the Broncos to get into the playoffs, and Shanahan couldn't put anything remotely like a defense on the field in 3 years.
I also think hiring Elway would be a mistake. He doesn't have any sort of experience dealing with NFL salary caps (other than his own contracts), I just don't think he's ready. Maybe as a junior-level executive, putting him in a position to learn before he has to make the big decisions.
Well they aren't exactly stellar markets and teams. They are little cities and lack big named stars. And since those teams fans are used to not being in the playoffs, some of them probably figure why bother.
I dunno. I know that sounds snobby but I'm just throwing them out there as possibilities.
I'm still going with Carolina to win the whole thing.
This weekend I'm thinking...San Diego, Atlanta, Miami and Minnesota. Although I can see Baltimore being the winning team just based on experience. Indy isn't ever gonna make it back. Not one of these teams will make it this year - in fact, none of the wild card teams will make it this year.

If the Broncos were smart they'd actually take a page from Jerry Jones book ( did I actually just write that?) and hire Romeo Crennel as their defensive Co-ordinator before hiring a head coach. Then they could hire an Offensive minded coach, maybe out of college and Romeo could not only resurrect the defense, but help transition the Head coach from the way it works in college versus the Pros.

I picked up my upper deckers for $69 including Ticketba$tard charges, which were the cheapest available for the Carolina game.
