If You Need Your Reggae/Ska Fix...

Post by ClemsonTigersXoXo »

Here are some of the most dope reggae/ska bands around:

SLIGHTLY STOOPID
The most accomplished reggae/ska band since Sublime. They have a wonderful mix of genres, mostly focused on reggae, but they also cover punk, rock, bluegrass, jazz, blues, country, hip-hop, etc. They have paved the way for independent bands, aknowledging that bands don't need radio play or MTV rotation to be successful. Their last album, Chronchitis, debuted in Billboards Top 55 during it's first week sales, & they have respectfully sold over 500,000 albums, not to mention, became the top independent touring act in the country. I have seen them live numerous times, obviously, & they definitely know how to please a crowd with their performance.

PEPPER
Yet, another reggae/ska success story, Pepper resides in Kona, Hawaii & love to represent their roots with soft reggae beats. Not only do they bring in the smooth jams, but they like to spice it up with a bit of rock & roll. These guys are true rockers. I have seen them live, as well, & have probably lost a few brain cells by rocking out too hard. They are on tour again with buddies, Slightly Stoopid... both bands are expected to sell out their amphitheatre shows.

THE B FOUNDATION
This band is a huge success story, for they have fought their way through the tough competition of reggae bands in California in a short period of time & have become one of the most demanded bands from the area. Formed in Acardia, California in 2001, The B Foundation has made their name known in the reggae/ska world & will be touring for the first time on the East Coast this summer. The jams this band produces are quickly addicting & catchy, & I have never heard a negative review about their shows.

THE SUPERVILLAINS
One of my personal favorites, The Supervillains, have made a musical career for themselves being the "big fish in a small pond." The band is proud to be from Florida, & the Southeast is proud to have them represent the music scene. Most successful reggae bands come from out west, but these guys have paved the way for reggae bands on the East Coast. They are now signed to Pepper's Law Records & have been touring the country for a few years now. They represent Jagermeister like no other. I have seen them live a few times & always look forward to seeing them live everytime they roll around. Their live show is something to not miss... they will truely have you shaking your ass & drinking Jager nonstop.

BALLYHOO
Yet another reggae group representing the East Coast, Ballyhoo was formed out of Aberdeen, Maryland, & have been touring the East Coast for a while now, while making their first trip out to the West Coast this summer. Their music is more described as reggae/tropical/surf with tunes such as "Somewhere Tropical" & "Cali Girl." Their live shows are kickin' every time. I have seen them live many times & will continue to. They are true performers & recently opened up for 311. They make us East Coasters proud.

REBELUTION
Yet another California reggae band, Rebelution has been building their name up over the past few years, & quickly became a success story as their reggae stylee differed from most bands out that way. I have been following these guys for a couple of years, & they are epic. They made their way out East for the first time this summer as well, touring along side SOJA. I highly recommend their concert, but more so, their album, Courage to Grow, which became the Top 10 best selling reggae album on iTunes & was rewarded the iTunes Editor's Choice for Best Reggae Album in 2007.
