The New Yorker has for years had unusual, thought provoking and sometimes controversial covers.
The latest cover features Muslim-garbed Obama fist-bumping his wife, Michelle, wearing an Angela Davis afro, a camo jumpsuit, and a rifle slung over her shoulder. An American flag burns in the fireplace.
Both McCain and Obama camps are calling it tasteless. What's your take?
Well...(said in my best Bubba voice) I've been on sabbatical.

I voted Boobies...as an Obama supporter, my opinion is heavily biased toward "they crossed the line"...but Boobies are always the right answer!

They may have crossed the line of "taste", but that's what makes this country great.
While I don't agree with it, I relish the fact that they can be controversial.
They had the right to do so, and it looks like they've gotten plenty of press because of it.

It's supposed to be satire. Anyone who takes it seriously probably shouldn't be allowed out in public without adult supervision.

In this hugely important and historic election, this is a real cheap shot.
The cover art just feeds and panders to the outright IGNORANCE people have towards Obama and his campaign.
There is little attempt shown to disavow the image as a parody.
But, hey... wasn't it was McCain's buddy, Phil Gramm, who just called all us American's "whiners" for having the nerve to complain?

Obviously it's not meant to be factual - there's no hair-pick jammed into that afro.

The scary thing is, because of the attention it is getting, there are people who will see this and take it as fact. The world is full of not bright people.
And oh yeah....boobies. definitely boobies.

Unfortunately, you're right, Jack.
I had a co-worker - a very educated woman - tell me the world would end if he was elected, yada yada yada. While I get what the New Yorker is all about, way too many people may take it literally.
But...ain't it grand we can
have controversial items in the print media.
And oh yeah...no boobies for me.

I imagine if he were really Muslim, some mullah would issue a fatwa against the cartoonist and the publishers of the magazine.

Crossed the line? I'm not sure, but it annoys the crap out of me.
However, I voted boobies!

Careful, we're talking about a black man here. The "political correctness police" will get mad.
