A Wonderful Setlist...with BN suggestions included

Post by buffett81611 »

Hey There!

Looking forward to seeing Jimmy in a dozen days and listened to the show tonight from Fin-cinnati. Someone on the set list group suggested he might be recording it for a CD, and I just wanted to say how much I loved this show!

Hot Hot Hot

01 Homemade Music
02 Coconut Telegraph
03 Jamaica Farewell
04 Pencil Thin Mustache
05 Cowboy In The Jungle
06 It's Five O'Clock Somewhere
07 Changes In Latitudes, Changes In Attitudes
08 Brown Eyed Girl
09 Cheeseburger In Paradise
10 Take Another Road
11 One Particular Harbour
12 Come Monday (with the Beach Band)
13 God's Own Drunk
14 The Ass And The Hole (featuring Mac, while Jimmy recharges with some wine)
15 Makin' Music For Money (featuring Nadirah)
16 License To Chill
17 Son Of A Son Of A Sailor
18 What If The Hokey Pokey Is All It Really Is About?
19 School Boy Heart
20 Volcano
21 A Pirate Looks At Forty

Band Intros:

22 Far Side Of The World
23 Southen Cross
24 Margaritaville

First Encore:
25 Fins
26 Rainy Day Women #12 and 35

Second Encore:
27 Paradise (John Prine cover)

What I noticed is how the covers have significantly decreased. (OK BEG and SC will be around forever) Jamaica was a special song, God's Own Drunk and The Hole are technically covers but Jimmy songs all the way. Jimmy loves Rainy Day Women and will keep playing it, and Paradise was special for Cincinnati folks.

The rest of the stuff was Jimmy all the way. I wonder if it was a special Cincinnati type set list, or what we might see more of this third leg. I'd just love to hear this again and again.

I know that some of you might not like Hokey Pokey, but it's a Jimmy song. I'd much rather hear Jimmy penned songs that are unique than another cover tune.

I love how few covers were in this and I'd love to hear more shows like this. Jimmy, please keep singing Buffett tunes...tonight was perfect.

Your thoughts?

Peace,
Matt

Another live album.

More of the same.

Ugh.

How about a release of something from the 1970s or pre or post - Sand/Mango 1980s? or Jump Up or Outpost? Something GOOD?

i agree with jimmy playing his own songs rather than the covers even if it is one of his weaker efforts like hokey pokey.i just hope that the covers stay on the decline.

p.s. jamaica farewell is an awesome addition to the set.especially instead of crappy glory days or scarlett begonias which he has beaten to death since 2004.

My thought is that those are alot of covers . . . about the same number as always. The only difference is that they are covers you like. I agree that Jimmy should play Jimmy songs . . . those are not Jimmy songs.
the hit and run is as good as any religion around this time of year . . .

I loved Jamaica Farewell.

Hokey, I could do without, even if it meant another cover. I really don't like that song. I'm one of the ones usually clamoring for more Jimmy stuff, but if this is the answer, maybe I'll stop. Be careful what you ask for

Take Another Road I was excited to hear. That's probably my kids' favorite Jimmy song. They always ask for it.

He drops BEG and SC he could put in, say, Brahma Fear and Barometer Soup - something completely different.

Or whatever songs, as long as they are HIS.

I'm glad I won't catch this tour.

Good...but bad

Post by radtek2112 »

The show was great as usual, but Riverbend needed to crank up the sound in the lawn. As my wife said, she could hear the drunk guy singing behind her better than the band. Sorry, but I'm not going to pay the extra $125 per ticket to sit in the pavillion. It wasn't the location we were in either. My dad stood in the exact same spot last week for a different concert and said the sound was perfect then. What's up?? Very disappointing!!!

When I saw him in 1995 and whenever after that I was always hoping he'd play Barometer Soup. It seems like he hardly played anything from that album. I think he may have played it here and there but it's one of those tunes he could do a lot more, that's for sure.

Just like he never played A Salty Piece Of Land on the tour that it was named after! Makes NO sense.

Barometer Soup is a fantastic song too. Too bad he doesn't play it.

From what News said, first time its been played since we heard it in Charlotte in Feb 2001. Easy Jimmy trivia...why did he play it that night?

As a tribute to Dale Earnhardt. As I was listening on RM Thursday night, that's what I was thinking about.

To touch on a few topics here, ONE of the reasons I am no longer a lawn person is the sound quality. There is a difference when sitting in a seat compared to bumping elbows with Joe Frat Boy. Which brings me to the other reason I am no longer a lawn person, I am sick of standing around people who are not fans and have no idea how to act at a show and ask out loud "Why isn't he playing Margaritaville...Is he going to play it?" The way I see it, I have dealt with enough stupidity in my almost 30 years on this planet and a Jimmy show should be my one place of salvation.

Next, I posted a few comments on another thread about the set list and the covers and all of that mess. One thing that I noticed that I think one on mentioned was, we have been spoiled by the internet. Yes, it is great and wonderful that Jimmy is cool enough to give us free radio access to his shows, but I think we get sick of the same songs over and over again because we listen to the shows online before we go see the shows.

Thoughts, Comments???

I've said it many times, what other artist gives his fans live access to almost every show? None that I know of. And thanks for doing so, Jimmy! :pirate:

You are exactly right, we fans are spoiled somewhat in being able to compare one show with another with another. If we were able to hear another of our favorite artists (pick one) over multiple shows I'm sure we'd hear roughly the same setlist, including covers, stage comments, etc.

Like most of you, I have come to admire JB as a songwriter over the years and would love nothing more than an entire concert, tour, and/or CD/DVD having nothing but his original songs. But the fact is Jimmy has a deep respect for other songwriters & performers, always has. In fact, as my wife says, most of his covers we enjoy more than the original recordings. And JB enjoys playing covers. Last year at Nissan after BEG he proudly declared "I like playing that song........" [smilie=coolup.gif]

So, at this point in his long career, I have a pretty good feeling that Jimmy will continue to play whatever Jimmy wants to play. He's earned that right in my book..... [smilie=nod.gif]

We all have the inherent right to agree to disagree about what songs we'd like to hear at each show. Maybe we just need to take a deep breath of appreciation and enjoy this wonderful ride before it really comes to an end....... [smilie=sad.gif]

This board amazes me...stop crying you are at a Jimmy Buffett show. If you want to hear the perfect Jimmy concert with all your favorites sit in your living room and play it on your Ipod.

Please stop crying some of you guys sound like my three year old.

Cinci was one of the best shows I can remember. loved the Buffett stuff,,,,loved the covers he picked ( no I didnt like rainy day woman, but who cares) and I really loved the fact that he let Mac and Nadira sing a song or two.

I remember as a teenager being sick of CIP and Last Mango and a few others. And that was without the internet. As in, like, you know, the late 1980s and like the early 1990s like and stuff.

So...a lot of you are spoiled, listening to shows from over the years on the satellite radio or website. I don't. In fact, I've only listened to A White Sport Coat this year - that's it. Nothing else.

So as a long time Buffett fan from way back, I will b i t c h and gripe about having heard the same goddamn covers and songs year in and year out. I always wanted something different. Aside from the must-plays, there are plenty of songs he could play that are JB songs.

But he won't - because the parrotheads won't challenge him to. So it's on with the same ol' same ol'.

Ducky,
It is funny you mention that you only listen to A White Sport Coat. I change my CDs, every week in my car. 4 of the 6 are Buffett, while the other two are usually Clapton or Floyd or what ever. But when I change the Buffett ones, I typically start from the beginning and go through the catalog like that. Sometimes I will mix it up if I want to hear something special, but I usually go in order. 9/10 times I would rather listen to the old stuff than the new.
