I can't find any further info and the show is a week away! One would hope that something would be released this week. We picked up lawn tix this week so my kids (7 & 9) could go to their 4th shows - we're bailing on having them attend the Thursday Mansfield show (school night).

Any idea what kind of set will be played (and for how long)? I heard Jimmy wants to respect the heritage of the festival, and it would be him, Mac and their guitars (and I hope Jake sits in). We're hoping for at least 50% acoustic Buffett out of their set, 25% recognizable covers, and the rest being more ecclectic covers. Are we out of our minds?

Thanks!

The first thing I heard was that it was just going to be Jimmy and Mac. In fact in one article Jimmy was quoted as saying "This isn't going to be a parrothead show." But last week I heard a rumor that the whole band was showing up, so who knows? Personally I'm hoping for Jimmy and Mac playing stuff that rarely gets dusted off anymore.

And hey, if you're gonna be around Saturday night (I'm assuming your from CT cuz of your screen name) check this out:

Yes you are.

You're welcome.

I realize this is a radical concept, but when I go to a Jimmy Buffett concert I want to hear Jimmy Buffett songs. Why would anyone hope for half the setlist to be cover songs? If that's the kind of set he plays then to me it would mean he's just going through the motions and playing the fans for fools. He's got 30 albums worth of his own material, he should play it.

Newport is the sh*t. Highly recommend it. Go rent "Wind". One of the best pieces of cheese ever on film. It is so bad it is good.

prob not. Newport is the best town to party in regardless if Jimmy Buffett is there. I go there alot. With Jimmy in town it will just be a huge mess with 20 minute waits to get to the bar and rude angry people who got caught in traffic and then paid too much to park. I deal with that on Nantucket enough. Newport rocks every day of the year except maybe in January and February. If I go I will decide last minute a day or two before and go down early and make myself comfortable before the masses arrive. I am not one of those people (no offense meant to anyone) who travels to see Jimmy. I tend to travel when the "coast is clear' . . . know what I mean.

Dude, you live on an island. You have to travel to see him. (I know, I know, he shows up there every so often. It was just too perfect a set-up for me not to be an a$$.)

traveling to a big venue like Great Woods, sure. Traveling to a tiny harbor town with no parking and a few narrow roads with small bars on them that serve over priced sea food that can't handle friday night drunks on a normal night of the year let alone when 15,000 - 20,000 Parrot Heads show up not so sure. If I have to wait more then 2 minutes for a 5 dollar bottle of beer and an 8 dollar shot then why bother . . .? Sure, you can carry a flask but I am telling you that most bars do searches. Just saying . . . and I bet that people will not be as happy as they are at most Buffett shows. Cramped and costly = not needed tension.

get there early. Seriously. Like 7AM and find a parking spot on one of the roads parallel to Thames street up on the hill (away from harbor) unless you have a room.

better than sitting in 7 miles of traffic. that little toll booth before the bridge is going to get back up far! most of the roads in Newport are too small to fit two wheelbarrows down side by side let alone cars. Over half of them are 1 way . . .

I stayed at the Howard Johnson's in Middltown once. Right next door. 2 - 3 miles from Thames Street. Great deal!

And the next day before you head out you have got to do the Ocean Drive. It is like 10 miles of pure beauty.
