I first saw Live By The Bay on a PBS station in 1992
and it brought me back to JB after a few years (in the 1980's) of dropping him off my radar. Before then, I had first heard of him through the A1A album while I was in college in the 1970's - our station played him and his other albums up to You Had To Be There and the movie FM
Since 1992, I came back to being a fan, and one thing has led to another: going to his live shows, joining up with the local PHIP chapter, a couple of MOTM conventions, becoming a fan of "tropical rock" and its other artists, ETC.

I think I missed the first half hour, but I've got it playing on the DVR right now!
I'd never consider myself a videophile, or an audiophile, but to my amatuer eye, it looks crystal clear and sounds great!
They all look kinda funny young!
Nice pan solo, then pan conga drum trio intro to OPH! And wrapped up with a nice dance solo by Josh Leo, aka white overalls!
And Fingers... sigh! Brilliant!
This is cool though - different than the 3 shows I saw last week, but quite similar too! Last Mango is on now - heard it a few nights ago! Super cool!!
(I've never seen the whole thing - only ever bits here and there. One of these times I'm bound to get it! But I would just buy the DVD if I could!)

I wholeheartedly second that! I also caught this on PBS many years ago and finally sought it out on VHS in the late 90's. It really is a time capsule of sorts, what with the introduction by Don Johnson in full Miami Vice regalia and Jimmy with his classic stache'. I rigged up my VCR to my PC and made a ginormous WAV file of the whole show. It's ok quality but has no breaks. I tried to edit those in myself but wasn't very successful. Still, I like to pull it up occasionally. What with all the live video he's been releasing of late, you'd think they could work this out on DVD. I wonder what the hang up is???BigR-KyParrothead wrote:this needs to be released on dvd

Re:
Have to agree. I posted comment on the other thread this one is linked to and find it amazingly weird he doesn't have this on DVD yet. His website has just about everything else - just not LIVE BY THE BAY.What with all the live video he's been releasing of late, you'd think they could work this out on DVD. I happen to have it on (what?) Laser Disc. I get it out about once a month, especially during the winter months.
I need to find the best video copying software and some interface cabling, so I can hook up my LaserDisc player to a Computer - thru USB? and get this put to another format, so as to save it.
To think, I only paid $3 for this copy on laserdisc... and to see it's that hard to find? WOW!

Worth your time? WORTH YOUR TIME? Damnstraight it's worth your time!Frank4 wrote:Is this show worth my time? I've seen it available on CD and vhs, never picked it up.
It was 'Live by the Bay" that made me a parrothead! I'd heard Bubba's music, and even liked some of his songs, but it was this video that flipped the switch for me! That's when I learned the difference between a concert and a Jimmy Buffett concert!
I actually picked up a VHS a couple of years ago on ebay for 1 cent (plus $2.99 S&H.)

I know the voices in my head aren't real, but sometimes they have really good ideas....

Anyone know when they're gonna show it again?

Our VCR is in the bedroom, and this is the VHS tape that has been it for over 2.5 years since we moved into this house. I pop it on every now and again while getting ready for work. Yes, it needs to be remastered and put on DVD. I would also REALLY like to see all of the film footage from Meet Jimmy Buffett, does anyone know where that may exist?
