I'd get so excited over the years when the Braves would come to Chicago and play the Cubs and father & son would work alongisde each other.
(And later grandson Chip Caray).
A great family, and very enjoyable to listen to.
Sail on, Mr. Caray.
BTW:
Here's the actual call by Skip Caray in game 7 of the 1992 N.L.C.S. when the great FRANCISCO CABRERRA singled in David Justice and Sid Bream to send the Braves to the World Series against the Blue Jays. http://www.braves-nation.com/media/sid.mp3
The Braves have been my "other team" since the days in Milwaukee when we would always go to at least one Cubs game at County Stadium
In 1978-79 when I was working in and later running a bar across from Illinois State University, I truly became a big Braves fan. One of the reasons Turner turned the Braves into "America's Team" was that he was the first broadcaster to replay games late at night.
When you throw 500 college kids out of a bar at two in the morning, you just are too juiced up to call it a night. Unless there were parties going on, I would invariably get a sixer and head home and watch the Braves. Now we are talking some really terrible teams Pepe Frias, Bif Pocoroba Larvell "Sugar Bear" Blanks and the rest. But they were fun to watch and Caray's sarcastic, dry sense of humor made them great.
Even though I really don't follow them anymore and couldn't name you anybody other than Chipper, I still have a soft spot for the Bravo's.
Also I am very please that late in life Chip and Skip reconciled their differences and actually got to work together, an honor Chip missed out on by one year with his grandfather
"Boat drinks, waitress we........nevermind"
He ain't wrong he's just different
but his pride won't let him do things to make you think he's right
