Only for 3 days. Next week, hopefully, I'll be on vacation. Verizon and the unions are still "negotiating" on a new contract and the unions could still walk at any moment .... if that happens my family continues vacationing at the beach and I'll need to drive back to begin my strike assignment. Unfortunately that also means we need to take two vehicles to Sandbridge Beach just in case I have to drive back.

And you can actually take vacation?

I'm in the same boat for Qwest (contract expires 8/16). I think they shackle you to your desk until the new contract is reached. No one even thinks about going anywhere until that happens.

I'm interpreting the company policy to be that if I can return "on short notice" (I can), that I'll be allowed to take the vacation. I've asked our VP to concur. I'm waiting on his response now.

Good luck with the Qwest situation. Union strikes are never any fun for anyone.
