We are doing PRETTY DARN good - seeing China has billions of people and USA has millions and millions compared to our population of 22 million!!!!

Is this another one of your attempts to put down the USA? You seem to be hell bent to do so in this and the China faked opening ceremony threads. It's one thing to be rooting for your country but you're crossing the line into bad sportsmanship by making a jab at the U.S. every chance you can get; actually you're acting like what the world sterotypes as a typical United States citizen.

Nope - it is just international sporting rivallry! Surely there are countries you have a sporting rivalry with? or even say domestic footy teams? Eg people at work in Sydney call my team "drug castle" instead of Newcastle - cause we had a couple of drug busts - I just laugh it off in good humour.

We have one with USA in swimming (all from Sydney Olympics and the whole "smash you like guitars" thing)

With NZ in the Rugby

With England in ANY sport ..... - that has been a long time joke wb

and so on ......

Just friendly rivalry

No offence intended - just my aussie humour and rivalry ... we just wanna kick ass in the pool ....... and we are doing that so far - cause as there is the twist in how you have the medals table - we count ours per head of population

We stop counting medals after the swimming - that is the main thing for us - our swimmers are better known here than even most of our footballers!

One only needs to compare the Chinese synchronized divers to the gymnasts to know that more than one of those girls is nowhere near 16.

The LA Times actually did an interesting physical comparison between the US and Chinese gymnasts in Tuesday's Olympics section. The smallest Chinese girl, Deng Linlin, is 4'6" and 68 lbs at a listed age of 16. That would be considered child abuse in this country.

totally! some of the eastern eurpean gymnasts are probably not much different!

So you have to wonder how the marathon athletes etc are gonna fair medically ...

we got a young broadcaster that was medvac'd to Hong Kong from Beijing in a coma - fighting for his life - just from heat etc ..... think they said he was 28.

The worst thing is that the truth will come out in a couple of years, medals will be taken away, the other teams might get bumped up a spot...it'll just be a mess. How sad that your bronze medal might come in a FedEx box, as opposed to getting it on the medal stand.

there's one who still has her "little girl cheeks." she can't be much older than my victoria who *just* turned 11.

and keep in mind, they have to be 16 in the olympic year, so they can actually be 15, as long as they turn 16 before dec 31st. at least that's how i've interpreted it.

i know in a few other events, they've said that a few players have had their 16th birthdays during or just before/after the olympics.

Those are almost exactly Victoria's measurements and she only turned 11 yesterday. I can see maybe a 12 year old being that size or a very emaciated 13, but no way in hell would a 16 year be that size without being very, very sick.

i can barely go a weekend without needing some "tori time."


what was really disappointing about the gymanstics competitions is that there were really only two contenders for gold and that was china and USA. in the past, russia and another country (often romania) make a real bid, too. there just wasn't a lot of coverage or excitement about any of it. kind of blah really.

not a fan of the new scoring (i miss the potential perfect 10 a la nadia ).

I just read where one of them is even missing a tooth.... apparently her adult tooth hasn't even come in yet....

I would like to see someone do Nadia's routines now and see if it really was as great as we remember---it probably wasn't.
The girls are so advanced now.

I'd be willing to bet that their looks are because of delayed puberity. Think about it ladies, we all know that all kinds of things can affect the mensus cycle. These girls, training since 3 - they are probably given diets to supress their growth - to keep them small.

Anyway that's my theory
