apparently Mal's first post has been ignored. :-?
I agree, but this isn't the first time a post has given away the results :)
No kidding. I learned the hard way that once it's live on the east coast, no one cares that the west coast hasn't seen anything yet. :-? But Mal did ask that spoilers be posted in white.
Oh well, my bad.

There I was, last night watching the broadcast of the Olympics when I saw and heard "Coming up next, women's trampoline". WOMEN"S TRAMPOLINE?

What the hell is this? Isn't the trampoline a toll used by the gymnasts to train for their routines? Since when did it become an Olympic event? Are they going to continue having Trampoline in the next Olympics even thought they are getting rid of baseball and softball? This is unbelievable to me.

But still I sat and watched it, OK I was warming down from my run, but I was too lazy to change the channel. As the contest progressed a chinese woman came up to the mat? Tramp? (What do they call it?) I thought to myself that she looks a lot older than the Chinese gymnasts. I mean a lot older, not just 4 or 5 years. I'm thinking if the gymnasts are really 15 than she must be 23 or older. Nope the gold medal winner of the trampoline, a chinese woman named He Wenna is 19 years old. This is the link to her site on NBC.

Perhaps we should lobby to have spanking added as an olympic sport.

I think you'd have to apply to regain your amateur status.

Not necessary anymore. The pro-spankers fall into the same category as the pro-basketball players.

The uneven bar contest was just as crooked.

This whole thing has been a mess. The judges they relied on for the tie breaker have never even had a gymnastics medalist....
Not to mention why is gymnastic not allowed to have ties for medals, but the other sports are? This is an International Olympic Committee rule not even the governing body? What a load of BS.
Cause it is a schemozzle ...... there are totally different rules for all of the sports. I questioned why we were allowed three triathletes in the triathlon and 4 in the mens road race - but only two per country are allowed in swimming ......

For swimming - it is not the best in the world racing - it is two per country that qualify within the qualifying time - my bet is there are plenty of american and aussie swimmers that swam quicker than some of the other country swimmers that qualified - but were not able to go cause two other people were faster in their country. Both countries probably would have gotten more medals (ie bronze, silver etc) if it were on a "time only" basis and not numbers per country.

And did you know that one of the chinese gymnasts was not originally picked (their best I think?) cause she had crooked teeth .. but someone chipped in and got them fixed  Seems they have a crooked teeth policy over there.

So they fix crooked teeth...and the crooked judges fix scores....hmmmmmm..... :-?

You're right Jenny, it is a convoluted process. I know in some sports the number of athletes is determined by how well your country placed in the previous world's...skating comes to mind. I wish it was just one universal selection process for every sport, period. I do understand the need to limit each countries participants though, so that every country (big or small) gets a chance at the Olympic experience.

Trampoline was added in 2000. I remember, when I was young, that it was a competitive high school sport (for men), but was not part of competitive gymnastics after high school.

I can't sleep last night, so I'm up watching some late night table tennis. I notice that in regular tennis when a ball is hit out of play, a ball boy/girl runs it down and someone throws the server a new ball. Same thing in volleyball, softball, etc. But in table tennis, the player has to turn around and walk 15 or 20 feet behind him to pick up the ball that rolled up against the wall. Just like in my Dad's basement!

In the 20 minutes I watched, I saw 8 minutes of exciting table tennis action and 12 minutes of guys walking back to get the ball. Seems like they could leave it, and someone could toss them another ball, no? :-?
