I tried Mal, I tried

thanks guys for trying - It doesn't bother me that much to not get the secrets. If I wanted to stay home and watch it live on CBC I would - I'm just sooooo dedicated to my job.

I like to come here to discuss the events, but not before they are shown on TV

Me too, Mol.
I'm begging all of you.....PLEASE don't blow the women's beach volleyball final for those of us on the west coast. It doesn't air here until after 11pm...I asssume that is the same for the other time zones as well? I won't come in here after I know it has started for the rest of you, but please please please don't spoil it for all of us beforehand.

I can't promise you Kathy that it won't be posted...your best bet----stay out of the thread and don't watch TV or check your mail until after the match.

Like I said, I won't come into this thread after I know the match has started for the rest of you, I'm just asking that no one spoil it for *all *of us beforehand. I like the discussions here too...and I don't think I should have to stay out of a thread all day when we've repeatedly asked folks not to post spoilers (unless they're in white) until after they are televised.

Assuming the 11pm time applies to all time zones, I should be safe posting until 8ish my time.

Not going to put this in white since it isn't US or a "marquis" sport, but today an athlete from Afghanistan won a bronze medal in Tae Kwon Do--the first ever for Afghanistan!

I saw this article, he's been practicing since he was 10. He learned the sport while in a refugee camp in Iran during the 90's.
Good story

Tae Kwon Do is a big deal at our house

My son want's to be a black belt by the time he's 15, and the Lopez family is from Texas.
An aside...the President of Afganistan promised this young man a house for his Olympic win.

And Rohullah Nikpai said: "
I hope this will send a message of peace to my country after 30 years of war"

I heard that on espn radio today on my drive up....what a thrill for him and his country. Makes you feel good. Now if only the rest of the world could learn a lesson or two from the Olympic athletes.

No Wheaties box for Michael Phelps....he has a deal with Kellogg's. Frosted Flakes & Corn Flakes. I was going to question whether Olympic-caliber athletes should be eating Frosted Flakes, but after reading what he eats in a day I guess that's a moot point.
Here's a early prototype:

That match isn't till 11 a.m. in Beijing, so we should see it live in the east. 12 hour difference, right?

That's what I figured, but one never knows with the east coast...

Bob Costas said they'll play volleyball in anything but lightning. Sure looks like it's pouring there, expecting 3 inches of rain last I heard.

nbcolympics.com
(spoiler in link)
So I guess they're playing.
Women's Gold medal match is scheduled to start in about 1 hour & 15 mins.

Not spoiling...just a comment. Turned on the Olympics at the start of the gynmastics "gala"....what was wonderful was watching these gymnists relaxed and seeming to have alot of fun!!! With the pressure off, they actually appeared to be enjoying what they were doing..good for them! And...it was fun to watch! They are truly amazing!

Kinda like the skating exhibitions after the Olympics and Worlds...once the pressure is off the athletes truly have fun and can show their stuff. It's always one of my favorite events, I'm looking forward to watching this one.
