I actually heard the commentator mention in a kind of questioning voice that it was a "computer enhancement" or something to that effect while they were showing the flight. Sounded strange at the time. Now I know.

Sooooo .... why do I care if China and/or 3,496,823,391 women faked it? It was good for me (great actually), and its all about my enjoyment (isn't it?) 8) Thank you China (and ladies). Looking good.

I agree, it was absolutely the most spectacular opening ceremony I have ever seen in Olympic history. The fireworks foot steps had to be my least favorite part of the whole thing.... no big deal. I dont think they ever tried to hide the fact it was CG.

Now they are admitting the little girl didn't sing either---the real little girl that sang, wasn't CUTE enough :(

http://sports.yahoo.com/olympics/news?s ... &type=lgns

A 7-year-old Chinese girl was not good-looking enough for the Olympics opening ceremony, so another little girl with a pixie smile lip-synched “Ode to the Motherland,” a ceremony official said—the latest example of the lengths Beijing took for a perfect start to the Summer Games.

Reminds of so many Super Bowls, where they pre-record the National Anthem and lip sync the song. I don't need it to be perfect, but I do want it to be live. And replacing the girl because of the "cuteness" factor? Please.
“The national interest requires that the girl should have good looks and a good grasp of the song and look good on screen."
Maybe they have a better grasp of Western culture than I thought. :-?

On with the Games...

This is a perfect example of the communist system at work. "From each according to his ability, to each according to his work" Good looking people get the jobs for good looking people. Ugly people get the jobs for ugly people.

I have to disagree - western countries are just as bad - do you see any ugly super models? Many ugly tv stars - except if their role is supposed to?

Two people go for an interview for a job - one slim and blonde ... one fat and ugly - who do you think has the better chance of a job? In a lot of cases - wont be the fat ugly one .. (thank god I got my job when I was skinny  )

Dont believe this is a "communist" thing ...

I think his point is actually right-on. It's just that China is openly communist and Americans are simply petty and judgemental.

I concur, only to add that not all Americans are petty and judgemental.

How many freaking ugly Chinease super models do you see? Yao Lan, Wang Hui and Queenie Zhou Qiao are far from ugly.

Do you see that many ugly Chinease television "stars"?

You assessment of the thin/fat is somewhat correct however in making that assessment you only pointed out that Australia is just as petty.

Exactly.
We would be total hypocrites to call out the Chinese on these details of an, otherwise, amazing Opening Ceremony.

oh... and...you've got to be a fool to believe our moon landings were fake.
Regardless of the Apollo 13 (which actually lent validity to our presence in deeper space) tt would have to have been the kind of conspiracy so wide and far-fetched that it could not have remained under wraps and defensible for this many years.

hell, we can't even pull off a fake WMD front in the 21st century...

In related news, more Chinese deception has been revealed. Seems that Yao Ming is really only 5'8".

He just towers over the rest of the Chinese by comparison.

AND they said that the Olympics would be exciting . . . rowing and badmitton are not exciting. neither is swimmy or diving. I mean seriously . . . it is painful to watch some of these people f' up as bad as they are . . . like those girls in doing gymnastics . . . why do people in the audience applaud these athletes when they mess up consitently? It is not a sport unless you get booed when you screw up!
the hit and run is as good as any religion around this time of year . . .
