Hello Everyone:

I read this article on Key West News today about the Legendary Chart Room Bar, Buffett's first gig in the city. Patrons say, management is trying to get the legendary bar closed to make way for a coffee shop or sun glass store.

Full article is here: http://www.keysnews.com/17611850202485.bsp.htm

Please send letters of support to be attached to their petition to kwchartroom@hotmail.com

truly a disgrace if it were to close. just what key west needs, less originality and more t-shirts and sunglass shops.

E-mail has been sent. Everytime we take someone new to Key West, the Chart Room is our first stop, priceless doesn't always have to have a number associated with it.

Fins Up for one of the legends of Key West!

I went to the Chart Room Bar and was very disappointed. I had no idea it was part of a big resort so this news does not bother me.

It was never part of the resort as it stands today, part of the deal of building the new resort was that the new owners retain the old Chart Room Bar unchanged, as a last bastion of old Key West. The Key West that gave us Tennessee Williams, Jimmy Buffett and Mel Fisher.

When I was there in June, the bartender needed to go grab some stuff from somewhere and left me in charge of the bar. What a sense of power I had at the helm of the legendary Chart Room. I could feel the movement of patrons past, I could hear the chatter from Jerry Jeff Walker and Jimmy Buffett after they pulled up in the ol' Packard, I could smell the peanuts and spilled beer from years gone by. What a day! Picture to follow.

Another crime at Capt Tony's is when they painted over all the great grafitti in the ladie's room! And continue to do so. Next thing you know they'll remove all the bras from the ceiling! [smilie=beadygrinner.gif]

Nah, but many of them have been there a long time--I know there are several from my daughter's bachelorette party still there 9 years after the fact. I'm sure mine from the 80's is long gone as is the shape that it held. :wench:

In the 5 or 6 trips I've made to Key West, I've never had a drink in the Chart Room.

Hope I get the chance.
