Sony Computers
I am considering purchasing a Sony desktop. I have been a Dell devotee since my second computer in 1991. I still love Dell but am digging the Sonys. Does anyone have experience with the Sony desktop or even laptop? I hear they pack a lot of crapware on them which I will remove, but how about service/reliability?

Back when I was in 2nd or 3rd grade, I saved up my allowance to buy a Walkman. When I saved up enough money, my folks took me to the store to get one. The whole way there, all I could think of was how great it was gonna be to listen to my favorite cassette (Twisted Sister - Stay Hungry) on the way home.
I bought it and ran back to the car, nearly bursting with excitement. As we drove off, I carefully unpacked my new treasure, put the batteries and tape in, put the earphones on, and pressed the play button.
Nothing.
Silence.
Turns out, the batteries which were included were stone dead. I haven't purchased another Sony product since. I guess I tend to hold a grudge.

The style is sucking me in...along with the 22" widescreen monitor. I'm comfortable with the price as long as the computer lasts. My current Dell is 8 years old and still running strong. I really like Dells, but feel the need to change. I have even considered an Apple but am not ready to take the plunge. I liked my Mac from the late 80's but didn't like the OS and inability to expand. I know it is different now, I'm just that loser PC in the ads.

That's one heck of a grude to hold.
I know a lot of people that work in the wonderful world of IT for various companies and corporations. One thing they have all told me to a man (or woman) is that if you are going to buy a computer. Get a Dell.
I thank the Lord for the people I have found

It will only "last" if it's fairly high-end with today's standards. Most computers won't go more than 5 or so with basic applications, and if you use them for gaming, you'd be lucky to get 3 without upgrading.
Just check the specs (processor, RAM, etc.) as that will determine the longevity more than the brand name on the front.

Sony laptops have a decent reputation with an above average support record.
They are not cutting edge in performance and are a tad pricy for what you get.
Sony's broad range of entertainment involvement means the laptops are usually very good at multi-media entertainment functions, but often lack the hard core computing horsepower for serious gaming.
Personally, for laptops I prefer IBM/Lenovo.

Just purchased a Vaio laptop a few days ago to replace my failing Dell desktop. So far so good other then some issues getting the bluetooth to sync up. I'm thinking the problem is more me then the computer. All my other electronics are Sony and knock on wood have had zero problems with any of them. Hoping for the same result from the laptop. Lots of crap on here that I don't need and will remove as I go.
I know what your going thru trying to decide so good luck with whatever choice you make!!
