Re: Memphis?
did you say graceland? graceland? going to graceland? Loved graceland. You must go. http://www.elvis.com/graceland/ragtopW wrote:OK so Santa want's to get out of town on New Year's weekend..
looks like a bowl game.. might be on tap..
any other Ideas??
this is early in the process. But Memphis is on the short list.
Tips for making a better graceland experience: don't: try to pet horses, don't make a comment about the frog on the gravestone, don't question docents about the "heart arithmia" story or "solid state TV's" (in attempt to confirm TVs on planes = Sony). Be nicer to the museum people who want you to go FAST and not read everyting. BUT FUN memories though IF you get behind the barbed wire fence hotel where we stayed.
In Graceland Graceland,
I'm going to Graceland,
For reasons I cannot explain
There's some part of me wants to see
Graceland,
And I may be obliged to defend
Every love every ending
Or maybe there's no obligations now,
Maybe I've a reason to believe
We all will be received
In Graceland
(Pause)
Woah in graceland graceland graceland
i'm going to graceland
And raccoons brought wine and the mice they brought cheese...

Woah in graceland graceland graceland
i'm going to graceland
Put on my blue suede shoes
And I boarded the plane
Touched down in the land of the Delta Blues
In the middle of the pouring rain
W.C. Handy -- won't you look down over me
Cause I got a first class ticket
But I'm as blue as a boy can be
Walking in Memphis
Walking with my feet ten feet off of the Beale
Walking in Memphis
Do I really feel the way I feel
Saw the ghost of Elvis
On Union Avenue
Followed him up to the gates of Graceland
Then I watched him walk right through
Now security they did not see him
They just hovered 'round his tomb
But there's a pretty little thing
Waiting on the King
Down in the Jungle Room
(Chorus)
They've got catfish on the table
They've got gospel in the air
And Reverend Green be glad to see you
When you haven't got a prayer
But you got a prayer in Memphis
Now Muriel plays piano
Every Friday at the Hollywood
And they brought me down to see her
And they asked me if I would --
Do a little number
And I sang with all my might
And she said --
"Tell me are you a Christian child?"
And I said "Ma'am I am tonight"
(Chorus)
Put on my blue suede shoes
And I boarded the plane
Touched down in the land of the Delta Blues
In the middle of the pouring rain
Touched down in the land of the Delta Blues
In the middle of the pouring rain
I might just cry if I got to see Marc Cohn do this song in Memphis

I dunno...I wasn't there for the game. It definitely was the official hotel for South Carolina though. Spurrier's grandkids got to be the duck ambassadors...wonder how that happened?ragtopW wrote:HMMM somehow I think that will not be an issue..Brown Eyed Girl wrote:I stayed at the Peabody last year...with the Gamecocks and eleventy gazillion fans.Crazy, but fun. Nice guys on the team...but boy did they make me feel puny in the elevators.
Did the Peabody have a shuttle to the game??
Oh yeah, the Milwaukee Bucks were staying there too...I was definitely feeling height challenged.

I'm 6'1" and would feel short..Brown Eyed Girl wrote:I dunno...I wasn't there for the game. It definitely was the official hotel for South Carolina though. If you like Cajun cooking, try Cafe Roux on Front Street.
There's also a VERY parrothead friendly night club called Bahama Breeze on Union Avenue.
And yes, you DO need to visit Graceland at least once.
So help me, anyone who isn't an Elvis fan WILL be after the visit that place.
HELL, Wayne, I may take a trip to visit my step daughter and MEET you down there.
