In my youth I was a Garbage man on Beale AFB..
I think my very favorite job.. good money.. ( 18 living at home and
clearing over 1200$ a month) in 1979
But my Company didn't win the next contract..
I was "just a kid" and the next company didn't
hire me..

EMT, Paramedic, Firefighter, EMS instructor - I stayed up all night, got shot at, helped some very sick people, wrestled with drunks and psych patients, got divorced, raised the dead, crawled into burning and collapsed buildings, taught little kids some things that might save their life some day, cut people out of wrecked cars, learned to SCUBA dive, lost everything I owned and lived to tell about it. I loved the job - but it's still just second place.

Arranged delivery of import shipments (a lot like dispatching trucks)

Traffic Expeditor

Traffic Coordinator - I book lots of trucks to move beans, rice and popcorn all over the U.S. and Canada. It's probably the best job I ever had that didn't require a uniform.

I was in banking too - for 13 years My favorite during that time was International Banking and then The Statewide US Savings Bond Coordinator.

Did a string of really strange temp jobs

Asst Purchasing Director for a company that designed manufactured and installed commercial kitchens for several different types of restaurants. I wrote contracts for the sale of everything from walk in coolers to microwaves. Ordered them from the respective manufacturer and coordinated the shipping of them as well as custom stainless pieces my company manufactured from my location to final destination and arranged for installation, calibration and testing of all equipment. I did several known fast food restaurants, high dollar 4 star restaurants and a casino in Biloxi. Biloxi was my favorite. Unfortunately the owner made very bad business decisions and the company folded after I was laid off. The benefits were awesome - plus great company sponsored parties, and equipment shows, every Friday aft at 4 those of us left in the office sat in the warehouse and drank beer.

Receptionist/ Accounts Payable - I needed a break and had to get my post count up.

Operations Manager - my current job, and my 2nd favorite because there is a huge potential for success, it just fail in my lap. I have an excellent staff that makes the majority of my job easy.

I don't hate the airlines. I think their hands are tied. They are just as screwed, if not more, than most businesses because they rely so heavily on fuel. One way or another they gotta make $$ (they are a business for profit, after all). Whether it is fuel surcharges or luggage fees or simply raising rates (not that I like any of those), people need to face the fact that it isn't cheap to fly right now and they gotta buck up and shell out extra fundage to get from point A to point B.

I was a guitarist in a band, had such a great time. I was 18 until 26, did it full time. Happy days!

During college summers, lifeguard by day and played in a rock band at night, probably the most fun jobs. Sailboat charter captain is a close second.

Navy pilot was cool, EMS pilot was rewarding. Airlines aren't all that much on the "fun" meter.
